Should I replace my engine?

Right now my old H23 is burning oil like a mofo, 2 quarts of oil every month I think something's wrong with my piston rings or valves because I'm not leaking any oil anywhere. Surprisingly it still pulls mad when you floor it, not bad for an engine with more than 160k miles on it So should I wait until it dies out or just go ahead and start saving for a newer engine? ie. JDM H22 Also for the high-mileage-H23 drivers out there, what's your oil consumption rate every month?

I'm going to drive my H23 into the ground. It's bound to happen since I almost have 100k and haven't replaced the Tbelt/water pump/done valve adjustment yet. I'm working on a project engine so I will have it when and if the H23 goes.

I think it would just depend on cash flow. If you got the bones to pick up an engine and mod it while out of the car you can save yourself tons of hassle.

but.... just a thought. Did you swap the H23 tranny?

I didn't know if you swapped in the H23 tranny or an H22. What do you think about the RPM band of the H23 tranny when matched with the H22 engine?

my H23 has almost 154,000 on it and has a slight oil leak, drops a couple drops every couple of days. I use up almost all my oil in 3,000 miles. I am very close to my oil light coming on everytime I change my oil.

It depends on how hard I drive. If I drive like a grandma, I burn almost no oil. If I drive like a madman I'll burn quite a bit.

I have 135k on mine and I almost use all the oil every 3k miles, so it seems very common. If my h23 dies, I am just going H22 with LSD to accompany my 4WS

148k and ~half a quart between oil changes. it's amazing what a honda master tech can do for an old engine.

I guess mine's isn't normal because 2 quarts of oil every month is too much and I usually drive like a grandma. Last time I left my car idle for 20 minutes, the cement right under my muffler was all dark

the cement under your muffler was dark? that's interesting, what could cause that? that means that oil (or gas) is hitting the ground in liquid form? i'm confused

My guess is that it's oil but not it liquid form. It's similar to the stuff that you see inside your muffler.

I've got 115k on my engine.. leaks oil, not too much just like a couple of drops after I park my car and leave it over night. Maybe loose 1/2 quart when it comes time to change my oil. I'm going to drive this engine till something goes bad then I'll probably swap in a h22a.

I'd say, before you blow that engine or run it into the ground, start saving for your next engine, so you won't be down for too long after the old one goes.
