it's your resonator. you can remove it if you like, it's only dead weight. make sure you plug up the vacuuum hose

well if you just installed a short ram......removing the resonator won't do anything but lighten your car by a few ounces.....even if you had your stock airbox in......it prolly would make a negliable difference

Whats the purpose of the resonator? To break turbulent flow, and allow the air intake to be steady state?

The resonator restricts airflow and makes the stock intake more quiet i believe

what will it do if you do not plug the hose or if you take the hose completely off?

The plug is for a vacuum pot inside. I have no clue why it was there, except, perhaps, to assist in the quiet factor.

when I had my 94 VTEC, I removed the box, put a screw into the hose and installed a K&N filter into the factory box.

It may not have added much power, but gee, it sounded neat.

for fun.......just removed the whole resonator unit......it kinda looks cool and i was amazed at the "throttle" looking door....i guess it opens up during higher revs......anyways now my car makes a cool sound until i get a cai.....if anyone still has a stock airbox and doesn't ever drive in alot of deep water (shouldn't be anyways) you should remove this....

That hose opens up a set of butterfly valves in the resonator at higher revs so the motor can breathe better. If you don't plug it, your idle might be off.
