i'm thinking about building an h22a motor for my car, all motor application, fully rebuilt, sleeved, pistons etc, my question isnt about my setup, but if i should proceed to doing it in general or not... this weekend i'll probably by the block, and from then on its going to be an endless investment game, paycheck after paycheck is going to jump straight into the motor... valves, springs, cams. etc..
at most i'll produce 240whp if even that,.. will it be worth the trouble, this setup is going to take me till probably mid next year to complete..
should i take on this challenge? what will i get out of it?.. these are the things rolling through my head.. if something goes wrong or should i say when, will i be able to recover.. ?
or should i just buy a new transmission and leave the f22.... save myself 5grand in mods?..
only 1 thing really drives me to do it.. building a motor myself.
do what you want...droping 5k into a motor only to get 50-60 hp isnt really worth it...but the satifaction you get out of knowing you did it yourself and that your car was built custom by you will make all the money you spent worth it...or get the f22 and drop the moeny into body work if you didnt already
you'll have a tough time getting 240whp from a n/a h22. If you want to go all out and rebuild the engine you should look into FI. If FI isn't something you want, I would just drop in a h22 and if you want you can add some cheap hp by getting a 50-60shot nitrous system.

this seems to be a popular opinion, I think its attainable, and although i know its hard, its also something I know I can do... difficult yes, doable.. with the right setup.
92SiLudester... that makes it all worth while you're right, making it myself... thanks.
FI wasnt a route I wanted to take, maybe with another car, I like the idea of N/A so I'm sticking with that... I know FI would be easily big numbers, hell i've the sleeved block already... just turn up the boost.. but not really the route i want to head....
What kind of mods do you have planned to hit the 240whp n/a? I've been in h22 preludes with serious n/a mods and they didn't come close to that number. Just wondering where you came up with that number and how you will achieve it.
just do what im doing. Buy an H22, build it, and add some nitrous. It is perfect for autox and it will still have some extra kick for the street or strip. Or just build it fo FI and have a monster on the street..

hehe,, thats kinda funny since nitrous isnt allowed in autox,, just a heads up before you buy it!..
slomo.. just the norm, pistons rods, etc.. dont really want to go into details until i know.
I don't have any experience with motor building, but here's what I think. You should consider two things:
1) Just because you have a Prelude now, does that mean it is the car you want to build? You probably don't want to have more than one project car in your life just because you decided you'd rather work on a 944 or a Datsun Z or an RX-7 or something.
2) What are your plans for the next 5 years? Are you going to be in school? Do you have a stable career? What about a girlfriend? Are you going to move? How important is money going to be in the near future?
Just looking at the long haul here.

Dont get into more that you can handle basically...If youve got the cash and time go for it...If your scrapping and can barely make rent then I say just drop the H22 for now and build it later when you have more time and things are stable.
