Short shifter adapter question....

I was thinking about getting a short shifter for my Prelude, but all they make is the adapter. My friend said that it is bad for my tranny tho. Is it true that it is easier to mess up your tranny with one? I am afraid it will make the shifting rough. I have driven my friedns probe, and it a little rough. I just want to do a little research before i mess up my tranny. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

i have the DC sports short shift adapter. if you take a peek at the shifter itself you will understand why they only make the adapter. ive had it for a little over a year. No problems yet...infact i love it so much i hate driving any manual without it.

a little note about the adapter install in case you get it...

you will have to trim a small bit of plastic from the underside of the console in front on the shifter... its not noticable after installation but if you dont do this the shift linkage will rub on the bottom of the console.

in my opinion... this should be the first mod you do to your prelude. i love it. i know it doesnt make any power or dramatic improvements in the 1/4 but if your lude is a daily driver like mine this is a must.

I don't know what the hell is going on w/ my short shifter, but after the install (I DID cut out quite a bit of plastic...about 1/4"), I miss third whenever I'm dragging a lot of the time. Getting into reverse is also quite a challenge most of the time. I'm not too pleased with it (the Neuspeed short shift adapter). I highly doubt that it damages your tranny, though (unless yours causes you to miss third half the time).

I had a B&M, and it had 3 settings for height, as well as the fact that it was adjustable so that you could make sure that all the shifts were made without forcing. If you install it right and make the proper adjustments it should not be a problem. It may wear out your shifter cables over a very long period of time though.

If you install it and you can't change gears without forcing it, then it needs to be adjusted until you can. Not doing so, and forcefully shifting gears CAN damage your tranny, synchros or shift fork.

i installed the DC short shift adapter on my 4th gen and i think it works great. i had to trim the shift boot loop like everyone else but other than that it's worked really well and has reduced my throw like crazee. as for the problem with grinding third gear, its not a problem with the sport adapter, its that the line yer shifter takes from 2nd to 3rd is a little different with it on and that's why people start missing.

I just hope to God that I don't blow my engine one night out w/ another bad shift into third. But it would be a nice excuse to go even more JDM.
