short shift bracket

Has anyone ever bought one of those short shifting brackets off of ebay?? I just bought one, it looks pretty simple to install but I was just wondering if anyone had any previous experience, and how they worked once they were installed. I got it for 30 bucks, so I figured it was worth a shot to see if it works, they said it will reduce throw about 45 percent.

I got a DC one not too long ago.

Installation was a breeze. However, the positioning of the cable rubs on a part of the center console so that the console bumps up whenever you shift into 3rd or 5th. You can take care of this by trimming plastic on the shift boot thingee wherever there's rub...Mine still does it minutely in 5th....

Go to NTPOG and look at the short shifter mod...There's a nice write up with all the info you'll need. You may also want to do the chopped shifter mod..

I did both, and shifting is so much nicer now...I swear it made my car faster.

Most people on here will tell you that they really arent worth it. The best thing to buy is the "C's Short Shifter". It is an actual short shifter, but it is no longer in production, and if happened to find one it will cost you around $300 or more. With the Neuspeed or DC adapter, you will have to trim the console a bit so that the adapter wont hit the plastic. But yeah... some people say its ok, and some people dont like it. I have never used on so I couldn't tell you from personal experience.

Well I wanted a c's shifter but like you said they don't make them anymore. So I guess I will have to make do with this one.

I thought the short shifter adapters would tear up your tranny?? Like the C's was able to make it align right and that's why you want one as opposed to the Nuespeed or DC???

I agree that the adapter by itself doesn't really do that much. And the trimming of the console is a major PITA. But, if you use the adapter in conjunction with the NTPOG short shifter mod, the results are pretty nice.

$$lude : I haven't heard about adapters tearing up your tranny. This is pretty worrying though, can anyone back this up???

Some people said that the adaptors had a negative effect on their syncros, but there is no SOLID evidence that can confirm this.

Many swear that it caused problems and others haven't had any like myself. I have had the DC adaptor for about two years and have experienced no problems (knocking on wood). I would never take out the adaptor because I love the feel of the shifter with the adaptor installed.

I just put my DC Sports adapter in like 2 or 3 weeks ago. I absolutely hated at first. It felt like the shifting was a lot rougher, like it was harder to get into gear. That went away and now it's just as smooth as stock. I think I had this one bolt too tight. Although I hated it in the beginning, I couldn't live without it now. Same thing happened with my old g2 integra, didn't like it at first-and then couldn't drive without it.

Can anyone post a pic with the adapter installed, just so I can see what it looks like, and where exactly it goes. Mine did not come with any examples, and this would save me a little bit of time. Thanks

i installed mine about 3 months ago and at first i hated it so i took it off, but then i realized how sloppy the shifter really is so i put it right back on. ive never heard of or seen anything to make me believe that the thing harms the tranny in any way, and i think its total BS. heres a pic of it on for you

good luck!

This is the thread that I remember reading that was telling me you could mess it up. But it does state both good and bad.

concerning short shifters:

I had the DC and Neuspeed and the B&M. The B&M was the best of the 3. I also had the C's short shifter adaptor, but I never installed it b/c it was for a 5th gen. But B&M is great

I had the DC on for over a year, but no matter how much I trimmed, it would still rub a tiny bit. Maybe I just needed to do more. I took it off recently because my tranny was starting to give, and I thought my shifter adapter was to blame.

Well, I still have problems, so the DC isn't to blame. However, I get into 1st gear a lot easier. I guess I need a new clutch.

Sorry for no conclusive evidence, just personal experiences

Cool deal thanks for all the info, the pic is great seems pretty simple to install. I don't see how that,by looking at the picture could damage the transmission. I am gonna put mine in tonight, I don't think it is a name brand like dc or anything, but they are all probably pretty similar.

I think people are worried because it puts the "lever" higher, causing a more dramatic angle over stock.

OH I get it,so are you saying that the more extreme angle puts a little stress on the linkage or what?
