Quick question, are the shocks of the 4th gen and 5th gen the same in the front? Also, what's the difficulty of replacing them?

not the same...not hard to replace if your mechanicly inclined

I was just told (by a very reputable mechanic in my city) that the SH from a 97 or so, would work on my SR-V. He said the only thing that I might find are different tabs or clips that are used for an ABS line or something like that. Other than that, they should fit right in. Just want to clear things up and make sure that they will work.

they're not the same but they will work. The 4th gen have the mounting bracket for brake lines but i think the 5th gen dont. So you can just zip-tie the lines up or something.
