shifting problems

ok well here's my situation. when i shift from 2 to 3 it feeling like my gear is really ruff and make a metal to metal rubing noise. but when i shift from 2 to 4 back up to 3 it does nothing. or if i down shift from 4 to 3. is my 3rd gear gone? and hwo come it only does it when i shift from 2 to 3. any help would be great

sounds like your syncros (sp?) are messed up on 3rd gear. You can help that by rev-matching better when you shift so it doesn't stress the syncros as much. That just means make your RPMS the right number for the speed you are traveling in 3rd.

GM Syncromesh fluid and try to really improve your shifting skills. I found that if I just shift smooth and precisely... you can eliminate grinding all together, but my gm syncromesh helped (didnt solve, HELPED) greatly.

there was a poll a while ago id say roughly 55% of 4th gen syncros start to go bad in those same gears i have it too
