If the maximum horsepower you can get out of the H22A1 is 190 @ 6800 rpms, what's the benefit of shifting at, let's say, 7400 rpms? Is it because you can keep the revs higher when you up-shift?
You stay in Vtec longer. When you shift at a lower rpm you are more likely to drop out of vtec. Most of my experience with the H22A has been crappy before vtec.

I highly doubt it. I shift near that on my h23. Even if your hp is lower up top you have the benfit of being in a lower gear. For it to be better to shift before redline you have to have more power in the next gear not just more hp from the engine.
