Shifter or Tranny??? Help please?
Hello,
I just purchased my first Prelude, a 93 Si, 2.3, 5-speed. Bought it from a member on this site. Car runs greats but the shifting is AWFUL in this thing...
The shifter feels like a dish rag on shifts to third under rising RPMs it rakes. Down shifting, it is hard to get it into the gears. All but have to force it into first before you are stopped. So is this the tranny/syncro's or is it the cables/shifter? I had this problem on a Neon once and changed the bushing in the shifter and all was great. I looked at the shifter and it looks very loose.
If it is the tranny, what is the cure?
Any help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks,

how many miles are on the car and transmission? It sounds like a synchro problem to me.

Bleed the clutch line, and replace the tranny fluid with a high quality MTF.

That is cheap and worth a try.... Thanks
Should the shifter mechanism have a lot of slop in it? Just doesn't seem right......

yes. do what artiflex recommended and then come back. Always do the obvious, to eliminate the obvious.

I have heard that shifting in first before you are completely stopped will screw up your synchros, Artifex, what do you think?

There is no syncro for first. It will trash first gear lol. waiting until it completely stops is what makes is easy to get it into gear =)

FWIW, I usually shift from neutral to second, then to first gear. It seems a lot easier to get into that way.

I would pop the hood and grease the shifter linkage at the tranny. I'm betting the last time is was greased is when it left the Honda factory.

m2b4 1st gear synchro
I know there was not a synchro on my old USDM H23 tranny, but doesn't the m2b4 (jdm lsd) have a 1st gear synchro?
