I am going through some problems with shifting, Im trying to fix the cheap problems first. my question is, do I have shifter cables or hydraulic hoses? or both? are they easy to fix?
I have a 92 Prelude Si which is a Fourth Generation model. I can tell you that it has shift cables since I recently changed mine. Since the Fourth Generation model ran from 92-96 I would assume you have the same set up, unless or some reason a change was made.
shifting problems, have changed master and slave cylinders, bypass buffer with steel braided clutch line, bled properly, and transmission flush. next shifter cables and then pulling out transmission.
You are taking a very expensive approach to fixing the problem. Just throwing parts at it can waste a lot of money. Shift cables are pretty expensive. You may consider taking the vehicle to a dealer just to get the correct diagnosis and then you can make the repairs yourself if you like.
When my cables went out, the shifter was just very loose and would not engage any gears. You indicated you have "shift problems" but that could mean a lot of things. Is the car going into any gears at all?
Yeah i had to replace my shift cables just recently, they cost me around $420. So make sure the problem is the shift cable before replacing lol. My problem with my old shift cable was because it had a tear in the rubber casing. Which caused it bind up and made the shifting feel real spongey.
sometimes it will shift just fine no problems at all and as I am driving it starts getting harder and harder until finally I just have to pull into a parking lot and let it sit for about 20 mins and then it will be smoother than ever until it starts messing up again
That is completely different from the symptoms when my shift cables went out. You might try reading what I wrote about my shift cable problems. Just do a search on my name and you will see the write up.
I think I would still suggest having the dealer identify the problem for you. They should be able to give you the diagnosis so you can get this resolved.
