There are already some threads about this...

But here's my setup:

Spoon shiftknob
ITR boot
... and a forbidden motorsports true short shifter

Just don't bother with any shift knob that isn't threaded directly into the shifter. Those that you have to use screws to hold it SUCK! They always come lose in your hand when you're changing gear.

+1 on that. I had one like that on my Miata for about 15 minutes. Then it went on eBay.

I have a MOMO shift knob which uses screws to hold them in and have never had a problem with them loosening up on me at all. I have had 3 different MOMO knobs over the years as my tastes changed in the designs, but I have not had any loosening issues with any one of them. One thing I like about the MOMOs is the trim piece at the bottom that screws up into the knob's threads. I think it gives the knob a cleaner look where it meets the shift boot.
[I am currently in need of a new boot so forgive me if the one in the pic is faded- I should be getting a new leather MOMO boot any day now.]

This particular knob has been in my car for 8 years and it still looks like new- no nicks, scratches, or stitching problems. This one has been in my car the longest, and I still have no reason to replace it, as I still like the style and still have people asking me about it.

Here is a link to a close-up pic of my current shift knob (I couldn't get the pic itself to come up). The model name is "Combat EVO", and is in black leather/carbon fiber ( there are other inset colors available also). rides.webshots.com/photo/2475670590072757921hpRLLS- Same link as to Webshots album in signature.
