I have a MOMO shift knob which uses screws to hold them in and have never had a problem with them loosening up on me at all. I have had 3 different MOMO knobs over the years as my tastes changed in the designs, but I have not had any loosening issues with any one of them. One thing I like about the MOMOs is the trim piece at the bottom that screws up into the knob's threads. I think it gives the knob a cleaner look where it meets the shift boot.
[I am currently in need of a new boot so forgive me if the one in the pic is faded- I should be getting a new leather MOMO boot any day now.]
This particular knob has been in my car for 8 years and it still looks like new- no nicks, scratches, or stitching problems. This one has been in my car the longest, and I still have no reason to replace it, as I still like the style and still have people asking me about it.
Here is a link to a close-up pic of my current shift knob (I couldn't get the pic itself to come up). The model name is "Combat EVO", and is in black leather/carbon fiber ( there are other inset colors available also).
