shave roof lines

where the molding is on the top of the roof that goes from the windshield to the rear windsheild on both sides of the sunroof...has anyone have filled in that channel and had it shaved off? i was thinking about having this done as my next exterior mod....any pics of anyone who has done this before me?

The seam is obvisously there for a reason. I'm guessing a fair amount of load is transfered through the roof. I would definitly feel better having that area shaved by welding in additional metal rather than just filling it with Bondo.

yeah it is a bit much to patch some bondo on but i dont see whta the problem is if a piece of metal is welded in and then some bondo is used to make it smooth. i think it would be a nice look if you have the money to pay for it.

I was just thinking that with the stresses transmitted through the roof, a patch made up of thick layers of bondo would be prone to cracking. A skim coat of bondo to smooth things over after a metal patch should be fine ( I would think).

Mine doesn't look like it would channel any water. It fits flush to the metal on both sides. On the other hand, I sure wouldn't take it out. Honda wouldn't go to the expense of putting that piece of rubber there if it didn't do something. My $.02

It actually does channel water away. Ever wash your car yourself? You'd notice the water flowing along those seams. And a couple of owners have had that shaved. I've seen pictures, and it looked good. But that was back in the day of PO.com.

i think that if it is ONLY for channeling water then i wouldnt mind shaving them off...its not like they hold the car to the ground and if they are shaved you will flip...but i would have to see pics before i do something that drastic

Actually, i talked to some body shops about shaving that rain channel... they warn me that it is prone to cracking because of vibration when driving and bumps. SO they said if you drive alot then more then likely it'll crack..... so just a waste of time... leave it be

If your body shop fills it with bondo or fiberglass filler it WILL CRACK 100%. I know from my boys civic that we ride in everday. Its all cracked up...

You MUST use a patch of long sheet metal. Make sure the body man knows what he is doing. Its easy to warp the metal when adding a patch, plus he has to get is nice and smooth after..
