Second opinion from you guys about engine problem..

Ok, heres the story. I went to the mechanic because my car was getting real jerky and it is idling from around 300-800 just kinda bounces around. Let me explain the jerky problem.
First gear everything feels fine when I accelerate, but when I shift to second and try to accelerate quicker it jerks back and forth real quick, but if I just ease on the peddle it doesn't jerk. (No I am not letting the clutch out to quick...lol) It does that for 3rd and 4th too. My check engine light is also on.

Here is what my mechanic said. (A little while back my battery exploded...) He said that when my battery exploded he thinks some of the battery acid may have gotten on to the Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS) and fried it... Does this sound right? If anyone knows what the problems might be please respond, any help or suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks

Does it feel like it's trying to move, but something keeps pushin it back, like in pulses? Just stutterin really bad? My car was doin this a couple of weeks ago, and it was ALL fixed for a mere 55 bucks (new distributor rotor).

check the code! I can't believe you wouldn't check the code.

Considering the TPS is on the back side of the TB I doubt battery acid got on it...

Are your CV boots torn? Axles?

Well I fixed the problem so here it is if any of you are having the same problems.... I needed new plug wires. This weekend I'm going to put new shock plugs and a distributor cap too. I think my mechanic was trying to rip me off....
