For Sale: How much should I expect to get for my car?

So I've been thinking about putting my car up for sale. I still need to save up some more for the replacement, so I probably won't be seling the 'Lude for another year. What I'm curious about is how to sell it and how much to expect for it.

I can sell the car as-is, which I prefer to do, or part it out and put all the stock stuff back on it; a real pain in the ass.

I'm surprised to see how much 4th-gen VTECs are going for, especially clean ones. I'm willing to sell it to anyone and can have the car shipped to the buyer. I just want the highest offer from a buyer who will really take car of the car.

Here's what I'm offering:

1995 Honda Prelude VTEC, Milano Red with black leather interior
-65,000 miles
-JDM H22A installed at 35,000 miles
-New milano red paint sprayed approximately 18 months ago
-Wings West RS body kit
-All emblems shaved
-JDM one-piece Headlights
-JDM fog lights
-ACT lightened flywheel
-ACT Organic Clutch with Heavy Duty Pressure Plate
-AEM Cold Air Intake
-DC Sports Ceramic 4-2-1 header
-MSD 6A with MSD Blaster SS Ignition Coil and MSD Plug Wires
-160 degree (F) Thermostat
-Custom 3 Color Powder Coated Valve Cover
-Optima Battery
-A'PEXi RS stainless cat-back exhaust
-Acura Legend GS calipers, powdercoated red
-Brembo slotted rotors in front/rear
-AEM Ceramic pads in front, Axxis pads in rear
-Goodridge stainless brake lines
-Polished front strut tower brace
-DC Sports Short Shift Adaptor and shifter stock shortened by 1"
-Prelude Type-S leather shift knob with red stitching
-Autodimming rear-view mirror with built-in compass (from GM truck)
-Digital LED fuel pressure and O2 sensor voltage gauges mounted in A-pillar pod
-Clifford Intelliguard 9000 with SmartWindows
-Lumar 5% rear tint, 20% sides
-Neuspeed Race Springs
-Neuspeed/Koni shocks with 20mm shortened shafts
-Ingalls 3-degree camber kit in front
-Axis Racing Spec 18x7.5" wheels
-Pirelli P7000 SuperSport tires, 215/35-18
-Custom fiberglass kick panel speaker enclosures
-Focal Polykevlar 165K3 3-way components, midbass in doors
-Custom fiberglass false floor sub enclosure and amprack
-Image Dynamics IDQ12 DVC subwoofer
-Xtant 3300c amplifier
-Sony Mobile ES CDX-C8850 headunit

How much should I expect to get for this setup, and would I be better off parting it out and turning my car back to stock form?

If I wanted a really clean Prelude. . .I would LOVE that car! I bet you wont be able to sell for more than 12-15K just due to the age of the car, even though it has some really nice work done to it. I dont suppose you have pics of your custom kick panels do you? I have been thinking about doing some in my car, and I'm trying to get some ideas for the best location.

too bad those rims arnt 17's =] id say part it out and sell me the rims. lol

But as for a price, if you find someone who wants a lude... and i must say, damn nice lude man =]

I'd say you could get 13-15 for it... but! thats a very precise buyer.. ya know? most ppl who are into moding wanna buy stock, or nearly stock and do it themselvs.. but good luck either way! and let me know if you part it out, i might be interested in the ww rs kit =]

why would you sell your car?!?!!? youve gotta be nuts! that thing is beautiful! perfect balance of looks and speed.

id agree with the 13-15k range. parting it out would net you more money but also be a bigger PITA.

There is a STOCK 95 Prelude VTEC going up for sale with 70k on it, for 12k. So I'd say you should ask more than 12, that is a nice car man.

What do you plan on buying as it's replacement??

For a replacement, I think I'm gonna have to get a Vette. The C5s are getting cheap and I know that chassis and the LS1 inside and out. All it took was a test drive and a look at one on a lift and I was hooked.

I have a little while to save up.. I'm going to need about a year anyhow, but I always wondered how much someone would spend on a car like mine. I guess I can't expect $20K, but anything $15K or over would work for me. I guess I can try running an ad like it is and see if I get any bites. If not, I'll advertise it in stock form and put all of my parts online for you guys!

More pics coming up...

It looks like you just modified (or modified a copy) of the stock panels instead of building a whole new panel. Is that what you did? Are you happy with the immaging with them down there?

part it out and sell it as stock. U'll get more bites this way and a descent price without losing money on parts.
Sell parts online and u'll lose a few $$ here and there, but u'll come out financially.

Actually, while it looks like the panels follow the contours of the original plastic kicks, they are completely new, sealed, custom pieces. I removed the original plastic kickpanels and tried to use as much airspace as possible but retain the contours of the original plastic panel. One of my orginal goals was to retain the dead pedal on the driver's side, and I was surprised I had enough room for the mid driver once the panel was constructed.

Overall, imaging is pretty decent. Not much channel bias and the stage is wide and high. Closing my eyes and listening for the source, it sounds as if the speakers are mounted somewhere high in the doors, near the doorhandles, but with good stereo imaging. I'm pretty pleased with the project, but I want to make a new set of panels with press-fit grilles and upgrade the mid driver in the kickpanels to the Focal 130K. I'll post the old panels for sale once I get the new ones installed.

Thanks! I had the lettering coated in red powdercoat, baked, then masked off before the rest of the valve cover was coated in antracite. After that was baked, I had a clear powdercoat over everything. As you can see from the pic, I cut out the cam gear section with my dremel, but left the bottom part alone so the plastic front engine cover could be used.

Oh yes thats right. I remember an old post of you talking about this. Didnt you also want a 427 stroker kit??

I thought you wanted a 2JZ powered Supra??

Both would be sweet, good luck.

Damn you have a good memory!

Yes, I'm looking for a '99 C5 in silver or navy blue metallic, and I'd like to start with boltons, but I'd love to find a 6.0 block and do my own stroker motor.. just so I can have the authority to put vintage "427" emblems on the rocker panels!

I'd go for a clean 2JZ-powered Supra also, but it's easier to find a newer, cleaner C5, and they're cheaper.

When it comes to selling Preludes expect the worse when it comes to asking price. You can post it for 12-15K, but your chances of getting that much are slim to none. I have sold and bought a number of 4th gen Vtecs, and they seldom sell for what you ask. I had a 94 Vtec that was completetly built from the grouond up, Forged pistons rods, sleeved, head work, Custom turbo, stand alone Engine management, over 400hp, and plently of other goodies. I sold that car for 18K to a guy that knew that is what he wanted, and didn't want to do any of the work himself. But that was a very rare instance. I would say more realistically you could pull about 8500-10K in stock form, and sell the aftermarket parts seperate. I have an ad in the For sale forum, for a 94 Vtec with plenty of work, and I am taking offers over 6K. So don't expect to ever get back what you put into it. Not trying to bring you down, just want you to expect the worst.

I dont forget a 'Lude like that one

6.0 Liters WOW that seems alot after all this Honda talk.

I feel your pain about Supra's beeing very hard to come by.

You ever thought of going Rx7?? Gots to love the 13b rotary

Good luck with whatever you choose. And good luck selling the Prelude.
