?'s for those who cleared their own tail lights

After about 2 hours, an oven set at 250 and some crazy patience I opened up my tails for the clearing process.

Just curious as to what type of silicon or epoxy you guys used to seal them up again? I mean can I use a clear plumbers silicon adhesive? or is there some special type/brand?

i just used what was left of the original epoxy. just heat it up and stick the two pieces back together. I haven't had any problems yet...just remember to scrap all the epoxy off the red lense or else it will be a tough time trying to get the two pieces to fit tightly.

i dont know if its really necessary to use silicone. i did it just for safety so my tails dont get any condensation. i just picked up a tube of i think window and glass epoxy. im sure anything would work. my first taillight i took my time putting it back together and it fit right back in that i doubt i needed any epoxy.

I scraped most of the epoxy off of my red lense and the black housing, I really want a snug fit and no condensation so I'll be going the silicon route just not sure If I should be using a specific brand or type

you used an oven? did your red lense get blurry from the heat? i think its faster with the heat gun. probably just silicone glue should work. use the clear stuff.

yup I used an oven set at 250, pretty low temp, placed the lenses in there for 4 mins and then 2 mins each time after to keep the epoxy soft, no haze on lenses worked great

cool. thats probably better than the heat gun b/c it gets the whole thing at once and not just one spot. good thinkin

When i take apart lights i always use a heat gun, but i think a oven would be alot easier....im scared that i'll melt the whole thing or mess something up.

As for sealing, just use the epoxy thats already there, there is no need to add any extra, i would think it would be pretty messy, adding glue and reheating the orignal. I've done many different lights and never added any glue and i've never had my lights leak.
