RS*R exhaust is on

Finally i got the exhaust on and wow i'm impressed by the sound and looks of it. It's like having another aem-cold air intake on the back. The sound is a nice low growl. Extremely quiet too, at idle it's almost stock, i can just hear a slight rumble. The only problem was when i was connecting the pipe to the cat it got really close to the heat shield which could rattle i think. I was going to call my friend over and torch it on the bend so i could move it down a little but i decided against it because of the risk of messing it up. Also it's letting off some weird smells, like something is burning. Is that just the ceramic coating and paint making that smell? I think i remember my header doing that a little. Anyway as for performance wise i think i can feel some more pull towards upper rpms but i need a week to judge it. Oh yea good thing i changed exhausts cause when i was taking the old one off it fell apart. The muffler just starting crumbling and there was a hole. it lasted a nice 73,000 miles.

The burning smell is just the piping and metal getting broken in. My exhaust and header did the same thing. Since it is the first time they have really been exposed to hot exhaust gases, they are going to burn up any excess material left inside the piping. Dont worry about a thing. Its perfectly normal.

Enjoy that RS-R ... you're one of the few to have one on a Lude, these days.

Congrats, it'll tick after a few weeks, but that will go away eventually once it's broken in. Then it sounds even deeper and smoother. I LOVE it.

Has anyone ever considered the RS*R header to go with the system?

Nope. I never saw any for sale new, even when they were still selling the exhausts.

They dont make them anymore and if... thats a big IF... you can find one it will cost around $300+. Its probably one of the rarest exhaust's for the 4th Gen. RS*R doesnt ship anything to the US anymore besides the Skunk2 exhaust (which is made by RS*R).

There aren't any new ones left in the US and far as I know. I think BigB got the last one. IF you are lucky enough to find a USED one, it'll cost around 400, without shipping. I actually found a couple used ones shortly before I found my new one. I got my full stainless for $370, BRAND SPANKING NEW.
