RPM'S it's driven me NUTS

Ok I'm new to the world of the Lude and to be honest I fool around with old muscle cars so I don't know to much about foreign cars but I got a 93 2.3 lude with a stick, when I'm goin down the highway at 80mph the thing is runnin at 4 grand, it may be normal but it just seems a little high to me, I wish honda would have put a six speed in these things. If anybody could enlighten me on how to make it go down without losing power, or is it just normal? Thanks for everyones help.

4k at 80mph in 5th gear is normal.

You could cruise at 70mph which puts you at something like 3.5k.

Oddly enough though, you're still going to get like 28-30mpg if you do straight highway driving at 4k rpms, trust me, I've seen it happen on a road trip to el paso. Oh yeah, and I also had 700lbs of household goods in my car with me at the time.

No big deal for Honda's...

I got 435 miles from a tank once and it was straight highway driving. L.A. to Berkeley with no fuel stops and doing ~90mph the whole way. Felt great.

HUH? He's definitely talking about an H23 tranny, which has a 5th gear ratio of 500RPM/10mph.

The H22 tranny from the 4G VTEC model has a shorter 5th gear, which would cause the RPMs to be even higher (~4300RPM) at 80mph.
