RPM issues in VTEC i think? (VIDEO)

the car jerks with the needle sometimes
im changing the oil tomorrow so hopefully that helps... its level with the bottom dot on the dipstick.

it sounds good doenst sound like the Rpms are going up and down, only the needle that is the problem hm

ill record another video today with the windows open so you can hear it better the car continues to go up in rpm but it stutters. by the way its a h22a swap. i just bought the car, it didnt start when i bought it and i got it purring. i just bypassed the aftermarket ignition and bam it worked! its a 92 4ws with jdm vtec swap! milano red! bought it for 1,900 and it is cleannnnnnn it may be the dizzy previous owner messed with it a lot trying to get the car to work

You said the oil level was at the bottom dot? Had the car sat long enough for all the oil to drain to the pan? If so then you don't have enough oil and lack of either oil or oil pressure will disable vtec and I believe place a fuel cut where the vtec crossover would be.

ok i replaced the oil and the problem persists. so now to look at the dizzy? could the aftermarket coil be part of the problem? i cant imagine so

i have had a simalar problem but it only happens every once in a while. but does the check engine light come on when it does that or about to do that?

It could be possible that you have a bad potentiometer for the tach needle. I had the same problem a couple years ago but with the speedometer instead of the RPMs. If you can find a good potentiometer of a junk gauge cluster of the same model then you can probably change it. The parts inside are very fragile though. I just bought a replacement one for $80 in Cali.

update for you guys, i repaired some shotty wiring around the distributor and the problem has gotten much better but its still intermittent. i;; be replacing the distributor soon and i think ill see my problem dissapear
