Rookie needing engine swap and information

Hey i'm new to this site and new to working on cars. I honestly don't know anything and i'm trying to learn. I have a 1992 si with a h23 motor. I recently got a rod knock and have been told I need to replace the motor. I have found someone with a h22 but it needs a crankshaft and piston rings. My question is what exzactly do I need for the swap because i have heard everything from a new transmission to not needing anything additional. My other question is how serious is replacing the crankshaft and piston rings and how much should I expect to spend? Thank you for your help

I would just buy a used h22 online rather than rebuilding.

you just need a motor and ecu. I would also suggest replacing the cluth/pp, t-belt, wp and a few other things while you're at it

Thanks for the response. The problem is im very limited on money and the kid will sell me the motor for 200 which i could afford. Also he claims only 40 k on the motor, is there anyway to verify that?

If the rings and crank are bad that motor is in no better shape than what is in your car and rebuilding it seems to be way out of your league. Save your money and buy a motor from a reputable engine dealer, there is no way to verify the mileage from the motor you are looking at but a dealer can give you documented info on the engine.

If you buy a new motor from a dealer it will need a timing belt, balance belt, crank seal, cam seals, front balance seal, rear balance gear o-ring and water pump at least before safely running it. Engine swaps aren't cheap, cheap ones usually break fast as the 15+ year old timing belt that comes with it snaps and bends up valves.

I appreciate the response but I do not have the money to buy one from a dealer or thats what I would have done. Another question I do have however is, are there any parts I could take off my h23 to put on the h22? Or are they completely different?
