Retro is the only way to go...

Heres a couple of pix with just a hid kit then with a retro on my car.

Plug and Play Hid Kit

Retro Fit

The pnp kit just had two huge hot spots of light with some glare. The beam pattern on the ground was just a mess of light. I had to point them a tad so so I wouldn't blind other people. With the retro fit the beam pattern lights up the road evenly, and it lights up the signs on the road something that pnp kit didn't do for me.

without a retrofit, you're going to have major glare and probably blind on coming traffic. Not to mention, your lighting will focus alot up in the trees and bushes than onto the street. If you had a retrofit, the light will actually focus more onto the street like it's suppose to

the glare really isnt as bad as people say it is...the road lights up nicely, albeit not as perfect as projectors, but they are way better than any regular bulb...keep in mind that a retro on JDM's can cost some serious money, which i decided wasnt worth it in the end...

cost's definitely the major fallback, jdm and hid kit already $500, another $500 for retro....that's too much for me

I'm still working on my projectors, but here is a picture of what I've gotten so far.

6000k Ultonons OEM housings

Left TSX with 6000k Ultonons JDM headlight

I still have to swap out the cracked lense for one that looks better with no scratches without paying too much. Just wanted to show where I am so far, and no shrouds either. I don't know if I wanna spend the money to get shrouds, this look might be better.

Feedback is welcome, probably more when I'm 100% complete.

currently im using jdm without retro but im working my retro, but recently ive gotten very lazy about it. i guess i should get back to work. but i think ive figured out a good way to put it in there. its mostly done, im just tweeking it. then i just have to do it again for the other headlight and i should be set! ill have more pics when i actually have it done. but retro is DEF much better than plug and play stuff and i think that that should be common knowledge. halogen headlights arent designed for hid so it looks like crap. you do have to be very crafty to make it fit right and look good. and its also hard to get it level and rotationally accurate.

Those are the h4 casper shields. They are supposed to get rid of some of the glare. They won't work with a plug any play kit. It requires you to use oem d2r bulbs and ballasts. From first hand experience those don't fit the 4th gen jdm housings pefectly. They're too long and hit the reflector shield.

I was considering getting HIDs - glad I saw this post before I did something foolish.

I already have the JDM one pieces (on my car...) - so, as I understand it - it costs $250 or so for the HIDs, and another $500 to "retro" them? What exactly is done during retrofitting, anyways? Any help is appreciated.

Retrofitting is when you get a set of HID projectors and put them into a headlight that isn't equipped with them. Such as taking TSX projectors and placing them into your JDM headlights....A few people such as myself do retrofits. I've done about 25 sets so far for the 5th Gen. Prelude. I have someone wanting me to do a retrofit for their 4th Gen. probably in the next two weeks or so..I'll be sure to take pics when I'm finished
