revisiting my original idea...advice?

im already in the market for a factory muffler from a couple of you guys. im getting increasingly tired of the loud exhaust all the time. i get looks from everyone, cops can spot me wherever i go...i just get attention that i don't want...at least not anymore.

so here's the idea. throw on a factory or regular quiet muffler, leave the 2.25" piping, put on a catalyst (in the market for one as well) to keep her from popping and rattling the muffler, and welding on one of those cable operated cut outs in front of the catalyst having the exhaust exit in between the right two wheels.

there is a steel cutout that supposedly won't leak, and regular maintenance should keep it from sticking, or so they say.

so, in the end, the compromise between high and low backpressure should give me most of what i want. quiet everyday driving, good low torque with high backpressure and say, in the vtec range open the cutout for low resistance at high rpm. maybe in the future i could figure out an rpm operated solenoid to open the cutout so i don't have to do it manually.

now for the flames or praises. let me know what you think. i really am tired of the exhaust...by the way its the greddy pe, which isn't too loud, but it is getting on my nerves. so it may be up for sale, pending my decisions.

Sounds like a decent idea.

This is exactly why I went with the A'PEXi WS(RS) exhaust.

im wondering how it will affect the car's performance with autocross. i should gain back a little low end torque, she slugs around the turns anyways. i think im willing to take the risk though. if anyone has a catalyst, please let me know. cheap

oh, this would also entail either cutting the dc downpipe to fit the cutout, or cutting the greddy pe, moving the catalyst back to fit the cutout to the dc flange. i plan on having the cutout flanged so i can remove it should the need for a real inspection arise. which way should i go, front or back?

Didn't you say you like the sound of my DC? Stock mufflers look like ****, don't even consider it. Why do you always make things more complicated than it has to be? Get an exhaust like the WS or something.

As for being slow around the corners, maybe it's not the lack of low end power. You should get aftermark shocks, your car does lean a bit. And get rid of your pepboys tires

And to answer your question in my other post, no I don't have my factory exhaust, my car came with the DC when I bought it. So... are you interested in the pedals that I'm selling?

dc catback is pretty quiet for regular driving, so unless you're racing, you wont attract any negative attention!

i don't really want to spend the monies on another exhaust that will be loud all the time. its REALLY gettin on my nerves. tola i might get rid of my front end...wanna buy? i still have my ww rs front lip and my fugged up factory front. i want to be able to drive around unnoticed. everytime i start up or pull up im heard. this way i'll have a quiet daily driver, noise and some power when i want it, and less attention. i still think im gonna do this. i could care less about looks, i never wash this car anyways. we'll see, more feedback welcome though. tola, i'd like the pedals. whats the problem with the accelerator pedal??? and how much for local pickup?

Nah, I don't want your front end. I never really liked black widows. I would like your RS lip, but I know I'll fvck up any lip I put on my car so I'm not even gonna bother.

The problem with the gas pedal is that the stock pedal don't have the rubber cover. If I fvck up on the drilling, I can't cover it up. And the other reason is that the lower 1/2 of the pedal is like 2-3 inches thick. It'll be a PITA drill through that **** and you'll probably need longer screws. There's nothing wrong with the pedals itself, they're just simple drill on pedals. I just didn't want to do anymore drilling. I'll give it to you for $40. I'll even let you borrow my drill if you need it haha please take it off my hands

mike i'll have a problem installing that cutout, i want to install before the catalyst and don't look like there's no room for something like that. i dunno though, we'll see. plus that thing is 200

dennis i talked to you about the lip, i'll keep you posted on that tip yo. the bearings look silver, all very nice condition though. i haven't really acted on anything. just getting the block was the big setback. thats out of the way, i have a couple parts comin in on order, but the project is still on hold. classes coming up and tuition and books due, you know how it is.

tola you know you like my kit, don't lie. i saw you starin at it. just hold them pedals for me, i'll pick them up.

everyone wish mike a happy and safe trip in amsterdam...heh
