Alrighty, I'm really trying to get a job installing/fabricating stereo stuff after this summer. The problem is, no one will hire you without professional experience. . .and I can't get any professional experience because no one will hire me, its kinda a catch-22! A few places told me if I build enough stuff on my own, and have pictures of all of it, they would consider that proof of my abilities.
So, what kinda stuff would you like to see? Nothing to crazy (like that one guy with the fish tank in his trunk), just stuff that is kinda nifty and innovative. I've already got an enclosure that fits in the passenger side airbag cavity in the works (92 only), and I'm thinking about trying to do something with the stock 6x9 mounting location. Just throw some ideas out there, and if I build it, i'll sell it to you at materials cost. I'm not really trying to sell anything, just trying to see what ya'll would be interested in.
How's about simple amp racks? Like with me, I'm trying to mount them vertically in the corners, but if I get this second job I'm after I won't have the time to make them.

Thats a possibility. I dont know if you've seen mine, but it holds two amps and mounts against the back wall of the trunk. It dosn't block the pass through, and the factory carpeted panel covers it. Looks almost stock looking in the trunk.
The big problem with amp racks is that people use different amps, so the locations of rca/wiring terminals is always different. This makes it impossible to have holes in the amp rack to clean up the wiring and make it look nice. Hope you understand what I am trying to get at here. . .

Yeah, that probably wouldnt to incredibly tough to do. I've tought about doing it a few times, but never been motivated enough to do a large fiberglass project like that. That would actually be easier than some of the stuff I have done/am doing.

thats what I was thinking...It seems to be a popular choice and looks really clean when done right

Fitting 3 - 8"subs in a triangular shape or 2-10" subs side by side
Thats would show some ability and I would buy that for sure
I was gonna suggest the same.... and was thinken of doin it... but you have to consider the unexpected.... good idea to have that spare layin around.. you never know...
but for sheer sound purpose... it would look tight... and prolly sound even tighter....
and like you said... not very difficult to do at all
aye, if i ever get a stereo again.. its gonna be that enclosue.. dynomat the entire inside of the trunk and mount the amp on the back of the seat and the sub/subs (shrug) prolly a single 12 where the spare was. in a plexy glass enclosure so you can see the speaker.
I dont think I could ever go without a spare. . .I do to much driving in unpopulated/remote areas. I was thinking of an enclosure for a single 8 inch sub that fit INSIDE the spare tire. . .that would be cool, but probably fairly low output because there isnt too much airspace there.
hey red92s how did your small fiberglass enclosure for the trunk project go? As i remember correctly you were trying to make a bunch of boxes for 10'' that fit on the driver side wall

I too don't want to remove my spare. I have also considered a single 8"-10" sub in the spot on the right side of the trunk, near the jack. The 1 part of the trunk that doesn't lift up. Think it could be done?

haha. . .one step ahead of you (well, this is actually on the left side, not the right; but same concpet). This is my current setup:
I'm going to buy a new left trunk panel tomorrow so I can start banging out some more of them. I found a MUCH easier technique to make them, which should help drop the price some and save me time as well. I'll probably end up making 3-5 of them this summer.
damn. i'd pay for one of those driver side panel speakers... 8" the biggest it'll hold eh? wonder if you can do one for the right side too? 2 8's like that on either side and i'd buy em =]

The one I posted above is actually a single 10 inch sub (IDQ10). You could also use one of the square 8 inch Kicker subs and port it. . .that would be pretty loud. doing something similar on the other side (passenger side) would be a bit more tricky because of the jack mounting location. Its possible, buy you might end up having to hack of the bracket that holds the jack (its welded on).

tell me more about your airbag cavity enclosure, i have 92 and the idea sounds interesting
I spent about an hour screwing with that today, and I dont think its to practical. There is some room up there, but I'm worried about vibrations. I think it might shake the whole dash. Also, I'd hate to have the vibrations cause problems with any of the electrical gizmos up in there. . .there is a lot of important looking wiring and plugs.
