my 94 lude has 104k miles and the timing belt hasnt been replaced. i stopped by the dealer and for their normal timing belt change which i scheduled for 90 something thousand miles it'll cost me $800 (us). they said it includes replacing the water pump and checking seals and a few more small things, i think. i asked them why so much and they told me its half parts and half labor.
it just seems to me that $800 is a lot(particularly, $400 for parts), especially when i've seen some people talking about how they replaced it themselves.
is $800 a fair price? do you guys think i can do this this on my own? i saw the post with the helms instructions... how much would the parts cost if i were to buy them and do it myself?
thanks
btw, did they change the background colors for this website or is my browser jacked up?
I just got a valve job, tune up and timing belt replaced for 170$. If u want it cheap, try to find a vietnamese shop and BARGAIN! Plus they do a great job. DEALERSHIPS ARE MONEY HUNGRY CHEATERS. I'm lucky i know about cars so they can never cheat me, hahhaha.
unfortunately, price is not the most important thing you're looking at here, i let a vietnamese shop changed mine because they charged cheaper, and ended, they messed everything up, and i had to go to another shop paid extra to get it fixed, i am still in the process of claiming that back
I got mines changed through my mom'sf riend and he does mechanic on the side when people call so i trusted him. Anyways i paid 158 total for all the parts at whole sale. It came with all the seals, head gasket, timing belt, water pump, alternator belt and such. I saved about 50 bucks with wholesale. Anyhow timing belt costed me 100 bucks to get put on and he was viet
i just had both belts the timing and balancer belt done with a new hydraulic tensioner and a bunch of other little parts done, $220 for the parts and $200 for labor total of $440 after tax out the door
