Replacing the 'Heater Return Hose' question

The hose going from the block to the Heater is bad and leaking. Time to replace it and I got the hose and tried to follow the hose to the heater but it goes down too deep and I didnt have adequate light. Im pretty mechanically inclined but Im at work with out my manual.. Anyone replace this hose before or can walk me through it?

ha funny I just did this last weekend. The hoses will be on there pretty damn good so plan on some elbow grease. You'll also need a pair of locking pliers to get the clamps off.

Step one: you will have to remove your Intake completey to get the proper work space. I have a 2 peice CAI so for me this was no big deal I only had to remove the first section connected to the TB.

Also the EVR container must be slid up and out of it's plastic bracket and allowed to lay on the subframe.

now just yank off the old hose.

PS expect a ton of fluid to drain out, you'll need another gallon of coolant


if you wanna be swift you should remove the heater connection first and then just tilt the hose up to prevent drainage. connect the new end to the heater side and now very quickly pop off the block side connection and slide the new hose on

hmm, I have a Turbo kit.. so I hafta remove the IC piping too the T.B? Whats the EVR? thanks for the quick reply.. Im thinking about it.. What is the heater located next too?

the evr catch cannaster (sp) is right under the fuel filter. you can't miss it it's big and black and weighs almost nothing. I think it's made of plastic. It has a cylinder shape to it.

the heater is actually not located next to anything but the fire wall. The tube is connected to a small black box with a "T"shape to it. one end has your busted hose connected to it. the oposite side is the return line that recirculates the coolant. and the hose in the center runs through your heater blower.

You'll see a small steel rod connected to this box..this rod is connected to the slide dial on the inside of your cars temp controll.

The unit is connected to the fire wall with a cheesy aluminum "L" bracket. If you need more room to work this bracket is held on with a 10mm nut. or it's prety flexable just bend it towards you


by the way you'll be working on this from the passenger side of the car..it may look hard to reach at first but you can do it..don't bother trying to go from underneith

the hose comes in Monday so I will do it then.
it had more than one leak in it too. Did yours?
what about the second Inlet hose going from the valve to the heater. Should I do that one soon as well?

Mine had a hairline crack in it right next to the block. At first I thought I had blown my head gasket. Then the dealer couldn't have it for a week. So I went to my local auto parts store with the busted hose and sat there for an hour trying to match bends with the hoses they had in stock.

ended up using the radiator hose from a 85 dodge omni. the thickness and bends were almost identicle...cost me $14

Glad I could be of some help...I was gonna go woth the flexale hose deal and just bend it around whatever got in the way.

Till I noticed that would mean it would have to lay on the clutch cable. I didn't want any friction from the two parts rubbing to get me stranded somewhere. That's why I went through the trouble of finding a pre bent hose
