Replacing ABS Pump/Modulator

True to form my JDM Predule ABS light is lit up like a Xmas tree!

I have checked the fault codes & carried out some diagnostic work and it appears its the pump thats gone.

Assuming I can get a recon/used one how difficult is it to replace

I have looked at a service manual and it dont seem that hard!

Anyone have any comments?

Just to let you know that the Pump/Modulator is an extremely expensive part to replace. Personally, if my pump/modualtor was to go out, I would just remove it, remove the ABS fuse... and just run without ABS. To me it is just to expensive to fix.

If you want to know all the process to replace the part, best bet is to buy a Helms manual, or have a compitent mechanic do the job. Good Luck

Well... if you can get the part for relatively cheap and you have instructions on how to replace it, then go for it. I don't have any hands on experience replacing the pump/modulator though. Good Luck

hey taters my abs modulator and accumulator were replaced about 3 months ago and it took about 3~4 hrs. it's not really hard to do at all, just a pain in the ass to screw the high pressure lines in because they are not really flexible. when i swapped mine out break fluid got all over that side of the engine bay and that was a mess. you should give it a shot if you can manage to find the part cheap. i got a used one on ebay for 50 bucks. check junk yards you'll probably find one in there.

i found a modulator and accumulator mounted together off of a fellow prelude owner for a very cheap price. $150 to be exact, sure beats the price of $800 from honda for even a reconditioned one. installation is about 3hr, not bad at all. things just get messy with the brake fluid. just make sure after the installation and testing of the system, fill it with some more fluid. after the pump runs some fluid through the system it may need to be capped off. goodluck.

blah.....mine went out, i dont care, beside you can actually brake faster w/o ABS...that of course is in dry weather, but u can control the car in wet too, just have to know what your doing, cant just slam on the brakes and steer like with ABS

Thanks PreludeRacer!
Just wondered how the insurance company would react when you wrap it around the lamp-post and they find the ABS bust!
Of course you might have told them

just having that damn light glaring in my face all the time was more annoying than not having abs

yep

keep in mind, ABS problems aren't the only things that can cause the light to turn on. It lit up on me once and it turned out the voltage regulator on the alternator i had installed was bad. I reinstalled the old one and the light was gone

my abs is busted too. My abs light comes on every now and then. My mechanic told me that the abs pump was leaking (or something to that effect).
