Replaced My Radiator

Previous radiator has been leaking a few drips here and there for a couple months or so. It was a metal-tanked replacement (copper/brass) that had been installed 6 years ago after the OEM unit cracked a plastic tank. So I took it out and the bottom tank had a hairline separation from the core.

I didn't want to get a OE plastic-tank replacement and I didn't want to shell out the $$$ for a full Koyo aluminum radiator. So I searched around and found an all-aluminum unit with a 1.25" core (improvement over the 5/8" core of previous radiator) and welded tanks. It's made by Proliance (Part# 439506). Only issue I have had so far is that the mounting points for the fans don't line up. I can only figure that because I have an 'Si' and the radiator is for a 'VTEC', and the fan shrouds have different mounting points. I just went ahead and purchased two 12" puller slim-fans so it's all good.

The fans are ProComp 12" Electric S-Blade Slimfans (Part# PC2052-S). They are rated at 1200cfm each and pull 6amps so you can just wire them right into the stock wiring. I opted for the s-blade fans over the straight blades as they are quieter. When they turned on they just sounded like a a big whooosh and they were sure moving a ton of air. I let a piece of paper go in front of the bumper and it got sucked straight onto the A/C condenser.

The radiator and fan install went smoothly and did the whole bleed and burp procedure and idle is nice and steady.

Here's some pics.

Nice! How did you attach them to the radiator?

Any idea how much current the stock fans draw?

I used a universal electric fan mounting kit (all autoparts stores usually carry these). It is basically thick round zip-ties with foam pads that just go through the fins. I used a tiny allen wrench to gently pry some fins apart and slid the ties through the radiator and the A/C condenser (since I mounted them when the radiator was already installed) and capped them on the other side. It's very snug.

I believe the stock wiring has the each fan on a 15amp circuit, but I do not know how what the OEM fans draw.

Ah cool thanks for that. I've got my fans zip tied on to some metal brackets I found and spray painted (same as you, Si fans on VTEC radiator) I need to redo all that and fix the crazy 'only overheats when the headlights are on' problem
