Replace ball joint when I lower?

I am getting ready to drop my car and I didn't know if I should replace the ball joints when I do it. Is it something that wears out on Hondas? They have 85000 miles of wear to my knowledge.

Andy

PS.... What does a worn Honda ball joint look like?

NTPOG... doesn't say anything about replacing them.

Just check and see if there is any play in the ball joints. Like grab the control arm and pull it back and forth and see if its loose. It shouldn't be if its good. If yah want just go ahead and replace them, but they are sort of a pain in the ass, I think you need to have it pressed out and pressed back in at a machine shop. Well that's how I changed them on my accord anyway, the lude should be similar.

Check THIS out. It's a list of recall, which mentions the front lower ball joints in some 96-98 Ludes. Check it out first, and then have a mechanic look over your current joints now to see if they need to be replaced or not.

Hey,
Any one know how much it cost to change them? I need to change my lower ball joints, all the way around my car.
Thanks,
Josh

I would just wait for them to go out. They should still have some life if you car has 85k.

Well my car is a 93 so it isn't in the recall years.

And I think my cousin has made up my mind to go ahead and change them since we are going to be right there anyways.

Hopefully everything runs smoothly.

Ahhh, Honda prelude Ball Joints. if you are doing the uppers, be prepared to be raped. They only sell them as a unit with a new upper control arm, at about 160-180 a piece. they can be pressed out, but no on to my knowledge makes a replacement. the lowers can be replaced by themselves and run about 27 a piece. This was the most ignorant thing Honda did on this car.
