Replace antenna, now motor won't work

Let's see if anyone knows about this:

I got an OEM antenna replacement (since mine was stuck, though I could hear the motor turn on and off whenever I shut my radio off and on). So I took out that bolt on the outside and took out the antenna and the plastic tie wire that the motor grips onto to lower/raise the antenna. Without an antenna in place, I turn my radio on, and I can still hear the motor humming; so it works.

Noticing that a piece of my old antenna's plastic wire was torn, I figured there was a piece caught somewhere in the motor, which there was. I removed the motor and opened it up and removed the loose wire. I then removed the upper portion of the motor (basically a large magnet that rotates to spin the cogs inside the motor compartment) and inserted the new antenna's plastic wire. So now the new antenna's in place....

...but the motor's stopped functioning. It doesn't do anything when I turn my system on and off. I connected the electric plug along with the antenna wire, and I get no response from the motor (but I do get reception). Any ideas?

Oh, and while we're on the subject, there's a small plastic tube hanging down from the antenna motor; it's clear, except black at the very end. What is that for?
