Ok guys, this thread pertains to my near near near future upgrade of a JDM H22 in my 4G Ride..... If I get the JDM H22, from what everyone's been saying, it limits your speed to approximately 113mph which is completely unacceptable...
The fruity Ford Focus can do 130mph before it's governed.... Imagine racing starting at say 75 on an open highway and smoking the Focus, until you hit 4th gear (lol) and your engine sounds like it's got asthma at 113mph.... just wave like this as the focus flies by....
So here are my questions... I hear everyone saying the best bet is to get a USDM ECU... but the guy I'm buying the JDM from is telling me that it isn't recommended due to different specifications... So if I dont do the USDM ECU thing, what are my other options and how much is it gonna cost me?? I heard someone mention ECU Re-Mapping, and I also heard some stuff about a CHIP... if anyone can expand on those alternatives, I'd be grateful...
p.s. I dont think its a good idea to race at say 75 on an open highway... racing is bad
the prob with the usdm ecu is it's fuel/air is mapped for a 10:1 compresion engine , and 93 octane gas, also has a lower rev limiter...but it has a higher speed limiter. So it's a trade off..posibbly less power for a higher speed limit.
The jdm iecu is spec'ed for higher compresion and 101 octane gas, with a higher rev limit..but the govoner is lower (113mph)
Having any of these ecu's remapped is the best answer for your problems. Jet can remap the US ECU to match the higher compresion and higher rev limiter, while removing any govoner at all.
or they can remap the JDM unit to remove the govoner and run on 93 octane gas.
they can also remap it to match any cams/intake/headers ect you put on your new motor
i heard that if you take your ecu fuse out for about 15 minutes your ecu chip will reformat for your intake headders ect. Go to this website it tells you what to do exactly
pulling the fuse will reset the ecu but that won't change some things that are stored on it... like the rev limiter or governor. It is good to do when you get new parts like headers, intake, exhaust, etc since it will adapt to those things when reset.
Is it safe to say that I'll have to take it out and ship it to them, so my car will be dead in the water until they send it back right? Have you done this upgrade? Worth the money?

yup you gotta take the whole ECU out and ship it to them. When you buy the kit it comes with a prepaid shipping box for you to send the ecu to them. If your going the JDM route and it comes with the ECU alreay then you won't need to take yours out..just use the JDm motor.
As for if it's worth it...well if your going to install all of your mods first and then swap the motor I think it's worth it. The Apex VAFC runs about $400 and you could use that to tune for your new parts, if you installed them one at a time..but the VAFC won't fix you rev limiter or speed govoner
But if you already installed all your bolt ons I/E/H/P maybe new cams and an ignition and FPR. Then sending it to them to have your ecu tuned for your current engine and all of your mods is def a deal..
I don't have this mod done cuz I mod my car one peice at a time..but when I'm done..eventuallly going turbo I'm going to have JEt remap my ecu
