Removing the evaporator...

How long should it take?

Thing is I'm waiting for my JDM climate control unit and I gotta put the damn transistor on the blower... My helm's doesn't say anything about removing the dash and even shows installed dash in the picture with the evaporator off. I figure if i can get the tranny off, I can have everything wired up in a few hours without much of a problem...

Yea, i've seen the threads about the JDM climate control unit...

Also, anyone know where i could find a cheap blower transistor? Acura wants $120 for a new one...

Removing the evaporator is pretty easy, 1 bolt and 1 nut in the engine bay then 3 other nuts or bolts I think and you pull it out. Though you have to make sure your A/C system is empty first. For the transistor you can check out some scrap yards I know that's where go pre go his along with some sensors for about 50$

oh cool, do you know if he got em online?

i only need the transistor. i just need the thing to blow cold air, lol. i'll hide the heater cable somewhere for the really rare cold days.

if you run across any... let me know, im looking all over to no avail. its also hard to find an acura in a local junkyard

I don't have a passenger side airbag either, so shouldn't be that bad. will compressor oil leak out from the r-134 fittings?

You suck!

Well then the evaporator casing is like 4 bolts and 2 nuts...

You have to drain the ac and remove the fittings in the engine bay, I believe there are some gaskets you would have to replace as well in the fittings.

i know its bad for the environment... but should i get the system professionally drained / recovered or just let all the r-134 flow out from the low pressure connector and out to the atmosphere?

I think he got it from a scrap yard near where he lives. I know what you mean though, I haven't even try to find an Acura in the scrap yard nearby cause I know there aren't any. I bought my transistor from www.acuraautomotiveparts.net I think it was around 70-80$US

removing the dash with the airbag isnt bad either. i have one. it just unplugs with the dash. to remove dash, first, take of the steering wheel and housing. then take off all trim peices under dash, around radio and glove box. then unplug harnesses from driver side and passenger side, should be 2 on drivers and 1 on passengers. pop the panels off the sides of the dash(2 on each side) and remove bolt. remove two bolts hold dash to center hump thing by shifter. should be two nuts under where glove box was. that should be most of it, try pulling it by then and see if anything else is holding it. when you unplug pass. airbag, be sure to plud the end into the red thing next to it. evaporator is harder to pull out....

evaporator comes out like so....drain coolant first. i took my trottle body off for more room to work. need to unplug the coolant lines running to the evaporator. they are a biotch to get off. then unbolt the two bolt on each side of them. now go insde the car....i had to remove the support bar (look like small roll cages) for more room also. only 4 bolt there. on top of the evaporator should be 2 bolt and 2 below if i remember. go ahead and remove the bolt for the box next to it as well. start pulling. carefull, rad. fluid will come out if you tilt it wrong. the resistor you need to take out will be on the blower facing you. lil black box with 2 screws holding it in.

he needs a transistor, not a resistor, for the jdm unit. comes from a acura CL or even some legends have one.

i dont see how you can get that out without taking out the dash. but like i said, its not hard to remove the dash. takes about an hour or less. im about to have to do it again soon. ill do a write up on it with pictures.

it is on the blower. on preludes it is a resistor, but for the jdm climate control you need a transistor from a acura.

ill find you one monday. check my junkyard thread in parts and add it to the list. i will also try n find a good relay for you. you need that too.

you will still need to remove the dash to do the install. so you might as well do it. if you can do it with removing the dash, you will be hailed by many.
