Removed Intake Resonator

I was hesitant about removing the intake resonator because in theory the prelude intake is an excellent design having 2 different intake runners. Curiosity killed the cat.... after removing it I found the throttle response to be improved and the torque actually increased. Its also just as quiet as the stock system unless you really rev it.

Currently I have the intake horns (w/ solenoid) and resonator taken out but I was wondering if I should attach the intake horns and cap off the bottom where the resonator sits.

What do you guys have?: The whole assym taken off like I have now, or just the resonator box?

The removal is pretty easy. Jack up the car and support on jack stands. Remove the pass side front wheel, then remove the plastic wheel-well piece, I believe you also need to unbolt the first few bolts that hold on the front lip, should be a 10mm. then you'll see the res box, pretty large. There are one or two 10mm bolts holding it in ... just remove the bolts and it will drop down, there is a vac line going to it, just pop that off and pull the res out. Now just pop in a K&N drop in filer and you'll basically have a cai ... I'd be curious so see the difference in hp/torque between this and a 200 aem cai.. it's easy to remove, just take your time ... one of the bolts that hold the res in is a pain in the ass, could just rip it out and then unbolt that bolt with the box out of there.. heh hope this helps..

You dont need to jack up the car or remove the wheel.

When I did it, i turned the steering wheel all the way to the right, undid most of the plastic lining in the wheel well and under the front, and remove the front right turn signal. There's 3 or 4 10mm bolts. I saw two of them and found the third by feeling around in there. Just take em off and jimmy the resonator out.

word it is a PITA to get out if u dont' remove the front bumper cause u have to have skinn ass hand and feel around for the screw... but yea i put my stock intake back on for some stuff i was doin... so it had nice response as my CAI, plus it gave a nice deep growl at WOT

i took off all the vacuum lines and the small black box by the battery. I capped off the vacuum hose at the throttle body.

There seems to be a lot of confusion... Check out this pic I took
and read on:
http://www.photoloft.com/view/allalb...fshp&u=1736918

The box on the RIGHT is the RESONATOR, the thing on the left with the solenoid are the intake horns.

Currently I have the everything in the pic taken out, I was wondering if I should just remove the resonator and keep the intake horns and cap off the bottom tube. What do you guys have? Has anyone experimented with both?

OK, I am new to the prelude world so please bear with me, let me get this straight...our 4th gen preludes have this huge things somewhere in the front near the fenders where the stock intake attached to, right? so if I remove this the throttle response should be better and in a sense removing all that stuff under there will be like a cold air intake right? because the filter box will just be attached to this hole near the fender which will draw cold air in right? so I just remove that stuff and get a new KN filter and there you have a CAI? is this right?

It's pretty easy... just remember there's one screw that's not able to be seen but able to touch.. that's the only one that i had a problem with and hopefully not to you

It's quite easy to take the resonator out. I didnt have to take off the bumper, just the side indicator/marker. Undid the 4 bolts and pulled it out the bottom (when I jacked the car up abit for clearence). Only took me 30-45 mins.

BTW I have all the resonator removed. Horns and box.
