relocating battery....worth it?

I've heard a lot of talk in other forums about battery relocation to the trunk. I realize this is for better weight distribution, but is it really needed, or is it just something "Cool" to do? Also, how much is a battery relocation kit, w/ box and everything? how hard is it to do?

Its serves form as well as function.

You can pick up a relocation kit from www.summitracing.com for $42 and it comes with everything you'll need.

easy to do, its like running a power wire to a Amp for ur audio setup. Serves a good purpose so u can have some more weight in the back since our car is nose heavy. Also it will free up alot of space in the engine bay. Good if ur running a custom turbo setup.

I did it on my old 3rd gen. Worked wonders with my sub setup, was able to use short power and ground wires. Just put the ground to the battery. It does open some space in the engine. Not sure how much it will do for a 4th gen. I went to home depot to buy the wiring and everything. I think I spent like 25+/- bucks total. The wire from there is stiffer and harder to finegal through the car but I liked it since it was much cheaper.

ground wire, just ground it to the chasis. I would highly suggest running at least 4gauge wire. For the ground, all u need to do is run a 2-3 foot wire and ground it where u want on the car. I would get a sanding wheel and sand off the paint, drill a hole and use that for ground.

1) If you are doing this for better weigh distribution, instead of relocating the battery, just buy a smaller battery I recommend (and use) the Hawker Genesis G16EP. You can get the re-badged G13EP from many racing sites, or pick it up at www.portablepower.com The 13 is smaller, but will not last as long as the 16.

- Reasoning: by the time you buy the kit and relocate your battery you've added 10-15lbs in extra heavy guage wiring, plus a spill proof container to your car. For the same cost, the Genesis batteries will save you 25+ lbs right off the nose of the car, and being dry cell you can mount them in any orientation. Being as small and light as they are, you can also remove the battery tray and hardware and literally ziptie it in place.

2) If you do have a huge sound system, relocating the battery partially shortens the distance to your powersucking audio equipment, and you'll lose less power meaning clearer sound. But the wire to the front of the car is longer. In this particular case, you probably don't care much about weight, distribution or handling.

What are the disadvantages of one of these batteries? Would I have a problem running a small audio system with one? Personally I care about performance but also like to have music for my commute.

You can't run a huge system, but I don't know of any reason why a small sub isn't possible.
