Relating to speaker wiring in my 4gen.

I used the harness from local audio store, I installed mine and another friends CD player, the harness is the same plug etc.

I've installed stereo's before, im 100% sure all the wiring is correct ... but the front left (driverside) speakers dont work in mine, and my friends car.

On the STOCK cd player from his car, it look like the front speakers had a common ground as the deck wiring (not into the car) had 2 wires looped (the grounds) coming from the 2 front negatives to the 2 back negatives ...

I'm baffled by this and have gone through all the wiring diagrams I could find ... it seems as though im going to have to add some after market wiring to get these working ..

Has anybody else experienced this ? ... I can't see this appearing anywhere in the diagrams .. bizarre.

any tips on stuff I should check?

Yea it sounds like when i hook mine up that the speaker is misgrounded somewhere because when i hook the + up to the speaker through the harness, it plays but crappy, but when i hook the - up to the harness, my radio stops working all together.

I am baffeled too, i just ran new speaker wire to the driver's side speaker and it now works fine. Sorry that sounds like a smart ass reply, but its the only way i could get it fixed. its really easy to do:
Take the door panel off and stick a thin coat hanger through the boot that goes through the door.
Not to mention with new wire it will sound better too.

Do you have it wired the same as stock ?
In the wiring diagram it makes it look as if its takign the positive lead and going into the tweater, then from the neg of the tweater, through the door and from the neg of the door speaker, back into the car ..

No Crossover?

I think I will go with a component system eventually but I haven't really thought about where I should place the x-over so am not sure where to run the wires.
