I know the different 4th gen trim levels had different redlines.... the S had something like 6200, the Si had something like 6500, and the VTEC was around 8000. I'm not 100% on the numbers but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm off.

Anyway, it doesn't hurt anything if you occassionally hit redline while accelerating. If you just floor it and don't llet up it will start to stall out when you get too high on the tach. I wouldn't keep it floored and bounce off the limiter over and over again, but once on occassion isn't a matter to concern yourself with. The only way to get above redline is downshifting, ie going 100 in 5th and then downshifting to 2nd. That will definately put you well over the limiter and should cause serious damage.

Well I have a 4g VTEC.. with the APEXI VAFC I hit fuel cutoff at like 7600 rpms.. with my stock rims on that happens at 8k on the tach.. with my 17" Verdicts it happens closert to like 7.6k.. guess its gotta do with overall diamter..

WHen I first got the VAFC I decided to see EXACTLY where fuell cut-off is and put the car into third gear and just floored it until I felt the oh so pleasent feel of the fuel cut..

VAFC has a peak hold setting so I checked it and it said 7800rpm. so I guess when you SLAM into the fuel cut you can get some extra rpms.. but when doing clean shifts right UP to fuel cutoff I never got a higher reading the 7600 sometimes 7640 or something like that..

I BEAT the crap outta my car.. I mean I do all the maintenece and whatnot, but I take it to redling on a daily and consistent basis. the car has 140k and just recently dyno's at 173hp and 140tq.. so the beatings will continue.. I DO burn a hellish amount of oil though.. about 2qts between oil changes which I usually do every 2.5k-3k miles... My rings are HELLA worn.. I am actually in the planning stages of a rebuild.. so we'll see what happens!

I ran the car to 9892 RPM! once. I was racing my buddie in his 5.0 just playing around.. Anyways I is-shifted from top of 3rd to 2nd. VERY unplesent feeling... the car just slammed forward but I caught it very quickly... Check the VAFC and the peak read at what I posted above!!! I thought for sure I messed something up.. Just shut the car off and back on and took my FORD buddy out in my car to show him VTEC.. hhaha no different at all!

I was lucky as a few friends did something similar and came out of it with Bent valves. The car ran like a champ for the rest of the year until she died at an Auto-X back in OCT. (All block related)

I wish I had a digi cam back then tho! I think that would be my sig picture for sure.. 9892 RPM's baby.

The rev limiter just shuts the fuel off so you're not going to hurt anything.
