Recieved AEM CAI Filter.. question/problem..

Okay.... recieved the replacement filter yesterday in the mail.. BUt I had to go to a philadelphia phantoms game (Minor league hockey) with my work last night..

SO I didn't even get to try and put it on till this morning before work.. here is the situation..

My old fiter consisted of the filter itself with a metal sleave that was sort of insterted into the filter.. this metal sleave was then slipped into one of those orange rubber grommtet thingies and tightend down.. no problem..

THIS filter is all one piece.. instead of the metal piece it has a long rubber neck... so I assume this neck is supposed to slip over the end of the intake tube, and then tighten it down with the provided metal bracket thingy.. well this darn neck will NOT slip over the end of the intake.. the end of my intake kinda has a bump all around the neck of it. .I guess to better hold the filter once it is on.. Is it possible that my intake is actually 3" and not 2 3/4"..

Would it be safe to heat the rubber neck with a hair dryer to make it more cooperative?? any other advice??

I was even thinking of dremmling just the very end of the filter neck so that I could slip it over that "hump" on the intake tube and then just cram it on there..!?

Oh yeah, I got this intake about two years ago.. its a two piece.. I am only adding this because I wasn't sure if AEM did any design changes since then..

I have no idea what your previous filter looks like, but I have the new one that you just got. Do not cut or melt anything. Make it slip on. It's really tight, but you can make it fit. I'm not sure what's the diameter on my intake. You just gotta keep wiggling it in.

Are you going to be at the March 23rd Autox in Camden? I'll show you mine if you're going to be there. If you wanna head up there with me, drop me an email.

Damn.. I gotta take my GF to go take her GRE exams the 23rd.. crud..

As for the intake.. yeah I am gonna go down to my buddies house and jack the car up so I can get more leverage.. maybe swab some vasoline on the tube or or something.. its a *****..

But thanks.. I plan to have it on today!

well just measure the intake diameter to be sure, but like I said before it should be 2.75". But even if it was 3" vs. 2.75" I don't see why you couldn't force it on there..it's probably just tight cause it's new...

Well I got the filter on, but not without drame..

FIrst I had a plumber friend of mine cut the very end of the intake off.. the "hump" that is on the end of the intake tube..

with that part off I Could slip the filter on.. BUt I know something is weird with either the filter or my intake because the metal hose bracket thingy was TOO small to fit aound the filter neck once it was on the intake tube... I unscewed it all the way so.. fit it around the neck of the filter, and it was too short to wrap all the way around they fiilter neck... so I dunno what the hell is up.. but that filter is on there and from the feel, look of it, its not going ANYWHERE

Isn't your K&N rechargeable? You can just get the cleaning kit for like $10 and it's good as new...or is it really that old that you just want a new one? You shouldn't pay more than $40 for a new one.

It is really old and the cotton filter portion has noticeable holes in them.
