Rebuild kit for VTEC calipers

Hey,

I recently bought some used VTEC calipers and want to rebuild them before putting them in my Si. Do you know if I can find the rebuild kit on hondaautomotiveparts.com or do need to get it from Schucks or the Honda dealer.

Thanks in advance,

you could get em at any auto parts store, they might have to order them though. it'll come out cheaper than trying to get em from the dealer or hondaautomotiveparts.com

Hondaautomotiveparts does not list the parts needed for the rebuild kit for Vtec calipers. I used to get them at the local parts store for $2.50 per caliper, with tax it was alittle over 5 bucks for both calipers. This included the inner Oring, piston boot, and the slide pin boots. It is certainly a lot cheaper than buying rebuilt calipers. it is a BIG Pain the ass to get the piston back in the caliper after replacing the Oring and boot. Two people make it go much faster. One person stretches open the boot, and other places the piston inside of it, then you just press the piston all the way down. make sure to use plenty of lube (brake fluid) to help get the piston to slide into place.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. Did you use any silicone grease or rubber grease like the Helms suggests.

Also, what parts store did you go to? I checked at Schucks but they only had the piston boot and the piston seal. The kit they sell doesn't have the pin boots. Any websites you know that would list these kits?

Thanks again,

I bought mine from O'riely's part stores. They were made by Wagner. The most important parts are the oring and boot. I never used the pin boots as they were always in good shape. I just pulled the pins out, cleaned them, and added new caliper grease. During installation I used brake fluid to lubricate the oring and boot. I only used the caliper grease on the slide pins, and on the back of the brake pads between the shims to help keep them quiet.

I just happened to buy mine tonight from AutoZone since Honda wanted to sell me the whole caliper instead of a rebuild kit.
