Rear Window Trim

Hey guys I am looking to replace the rear window trim on my lude. It's looking pretty bad. It's not the trim that runs along the sides and along the roof but the trim that meets the trunk. I couldn't find it on HondaAutomotiveParts.com. I thought I did find it but after getting the box, I got some roll of foam...yeah I wasn't too happy. So if any of you guys could help me out with that, it'd be great!

Thanks!

That's what I'm going to do. It has a bit of surface rust, but nothing that can't be fixed.

Well guys I actually found this:
Write Up: Reparing Weather Stripping (black window trim) VERSION II

And so, I might give that a shot. Cuz you know if you buy it from Honda it's probably going to be like $50+

I'm not quite sure I understand what you are talking about... Do you mean if I just were to buy it, it's easier? Does anyone have the part # for HondaAutomotiveParts.com?

The part ins't super cheap. It part 4 in this picture.

The one your ordered from hondautomotiveparts is the seal for the rear window glass. Their diagram is misleading. As you can see in the picture from slhondaparts it's much more clear. Anyhow if you're willing to spend 62.68 plus shipping to replace thats up to you.

It's very easy to repair on your own. Heres how to do it.
Open the trunk. You'll see a little rubber flap infront of the window molding. Lift that up and you'll see a bunch of brackets with screws that hold the molding down. Theres a trick to getting this out. First remove the screw. Then push the screw back in. Do not screw it back in. Then pull the the molding with the bracket out of the body. When you have the whole moling time to sand it down. I'd tape up the rubber seal that comes out with it cause you don't want paint on that. Prime and paint it. I used some auto trim paint that was flat black couple of years ago and it still looks the same as when I did it. When dry, re install and marvel at your diy fix.

i bought one 84$ shipped from majestic honda and put silicone on the tabs (#7) looks great and no more wet trunk! anything less than 100$ for your car is a good investment, especially if it keeps water out.

Mine keeps water out, but the rubber is worn off and the silver metal is developing surface rust.

What about the lower trim on the door windows? Mine got hit with hail a couple weeks ago and they're all broken and frail.

Oh wow that diagram is much easier to read! Thanks Spin_r_g! I'm still thinking I am gonna buy that Trim Tape stuff and do it that way... Wow, $63 for a piece of trim...what a rip off.

I don't see the point in spending $60+ replacing this piece of trim when it can be made good for a few dollars and a couple of hours of your time. I had the same problem on my old 4th gen when the lower rear window trim had flaky paint and it developed surface rust and looked tatty, so I simply removed it and gave it a fresh coat of paint. It's so simple to remove, just open the trunk and you can access the part easily. Just lift the rubbery part towards the rear window to reveal the fixing screws and undo them (about 10 of them I think) and the trim comes off. Then, as with any other bodywork, sand it down to remove any loose/flaking paint and respray it. I used an aerosol can of satin black to restore it, giving it three coats of paint and waiting about 20 minutes between each coat. Then about an hour later after leaving it to dry in the sun, I screwed it back in place and it looked as good as new.
It really is so simple to do and I only spent a few bucks on one can of paint, rather than $60 or more for a new part that wasn't really necessary.

Hope this helps.

sorry i did it because i love my car, and its worth it, others look at their cars like appliances, your basic toaster. if thats the case then yeah go the cheap route, but my car is my friend, and whats 60$ between friends that have been together for 10+ years.
