Rear brake rotors are really messed up...

Greetings,

Recently I was hearing a weird sound coming from my rear brakes so I decided to inspect the rotors since I had a feeling they needed to be changed.

Here is what I found:

It looks like metal from the pads might be rubbing against the rotor. This is the only logical explanation I can think of that would make sense since there is so much missing from the surface of the rotor.

The only problem is that I can't seem to remove the damn caliper bracket to inspect the pads. I removed the splash shield which has 2 10mm bolts and I removed the 2 12mm slider bolts. It does not want to come off.

Did I forget to remove something?

Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks.

Uhh....my e-brake is not on.

Can it be that my caliper is seized?

Caliper could be seized or your rotors are just really old and need to be replaced. I don't remember what bolts need to be taken off to get the rear caliper off I know you have to take off the plastic shield then there should be 2 bolts I think holding the caliper on. I'm sure you can find it.

From the Honda manual that's what it should be, 2 bolts on the splash shield and then another 2 bolts. I think I may just have to use more force on it then.

Once you take off the 2 12mm Slider bolts, your caliper should pretty much just pull away.

Push the caliper piston in a little to create some free play and it will come off.

-Use a large C clamp.
-Open your brake master cylinder reservoir cap.
-See how the middle of the outer brake pad is exposed on the caliper? Clamp there and the backside of the caliper. SLOWLY tighten the clamp to force the piston to move back into the caliper.
-Now that the there is some freeplay, the caliper should come right off.

can't use a c-clamp on the back calipers, they are the screw-in type...
