Rear 4th Gen suspension.

Hello Everyone.

Please be patient with me as I am just getting started. I have recently purchased a 92 Prelude as a project car and bought it from someone after being sitting for about 9 months with a cracked block. Bought the car, dropped a new engine but the suspension seems to be crap as well. Changed a few things around but my right rear suspension is tilting the top of my tire in, not too bad but you can tell the difference.

I brought the car to a suspension place where the mechanic told me to change the entire right suspension which seems to be just too much for something like this. Of course replacing the entire suspension is going to fix the problem but you don’t change your entire engine because the oil has gone bad.

I am leaning to changing the suspension bushing as the my front bushings were really bad as well and that fixed front suspension. Let me know what you think and what can lead to this type of problems in the suspension.

I will be taking some pictures this weekend for better view of it. Greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't a camber kit fix this issue. My front tires are tilting in by about 2 degrees when i did some alignment after my suspension upgrade and my mechanic said I may need a camber kit to rectify this alignment unless you don't care about uneven tire ware. I have a full set of 4th gen stock suspension sitting in my closet right now which I may put up for sale soon when I find the time.

I agree

ALSO my buddy had an MX6 like that but it was both sides in the rear...turned out both of the struts were snapped in half and the only thing that was holding them on was the body sitting on them. i about ****

Thanks for the replies and the good advise. I thought about using a camber kit but the weird thing is that there is only one rear right tire with this problem and not both. I was thinking on checking the strut as well since this car was sitting for while in a yard and not work being worked on the car so the strut may be bad as well. I am checking with my mechanic this week so take a close look at the suspension, make sure nothing bend and if not I'll replace the strut and the bushings to be sure.

Hello everyone and sorry for the delay on the image. It isn't a good image and might not be able to see the different but the right rear wheel is tilt in a bit from the top.

Hope you can see I am talking about. The left side looks just fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, I may have to go with using a camber and see what happens. Also I don't remember the name of the muffler but it was an aftermarket brand on Ebay. I needed one in a hurry and this one was a great price and looks good too. Sure you can find one one Ebay as well, it does sounds good.

Something's bent if it's only like that on the right-hand side.
The car probably hit a curb very hard or was in an accident.
A camber kit will only hide the real problem, which is what you actually need to fix.
You need to have a very close look at the suspension members to see what is bent and then replace it.
It may however, be quite difficult to see which suspension member is bent just by looking at it, but you'll have to figure it out...
You definitely don't want something on your suspension to fail while you’re driving.

That's right. I don't want to hide the problem but fix it. I am taking a close look tomorrow to find out what could be bent. I will post once I looked at it and thanks for the suggestion.

Also keep in mind that often more than one suspension member is bent.
Like I said, it’s normally difficult to spot the bent ones since the suspension members are curved to begin with...
Maybe compare them with a car whose suspension you know is good.
Also make sure your rear sub-frame is straight.

Thanks again. The reason why I don't believe that it is a bent part is because when the car is lifted the suspension becomes straight again. I only shows bent when the car is on the ground. I took it to the mechanics and found out that the lower arm bushing is really bad so I will replace it and see what comes of it.
