really weird kinda scary overheating problem

yay...one more problem with the car
anyway heres the story. I was waiting for a friend in a parking lot and the car wa sitting at idel. I glance at my gas gauge and notice the car's heat was all the way up so im like so i turned on the heat real quick hoping it was a thermostat and the heat came out cold and it smelled really bad like some kinda gas. Anyway i decided to run it around the parking lot cause last time i had a heati issue it cooled when driven, so when i did this the car cooled right down and the heat went back from cold to hot and the smell went away. What the hell is going on with my car???????

Most likely: dead fans. Either something wrong with the fans, or something wrong with the sensor that tells the fans to kick on.

agreed, the problem could be electircal so you might want to check that before just replacing them.

can anyone explain the smell and cold heat issue or does the fan affect that. I migh also add that my climate control has been acting funny lately. When i press a button to change which vents are on it takes a very long time for it to switch except for the fropnt defroster. that one always comes on immediately but then when im switching from that to other vents it takes between 10 mintes to an hour (if im on a long trip i notice this) for it to switch.

ok now im really upset. I just got back from the dealer and they said theres a good likelyhood that my head gasket went and im leaking coolant into the block.

Lets tally up the **** wrong with my car shall we?
possible head gasket, axels, calipers, tie rod ends, ball joint, tires and timing belt. I'm almost at the point of selling it but neither I nor my parents have enough money to afford a new car. So for now i mihgt as well not have a car cause im only driving back and forth to work and i really shouldnt be doing that either.
This summer is really starting to blow

When your temp shoots up like that you should shut it down immediately and let it cool off. Especially when you have no heat coming out. It means your coolant is low and if you keep driving you are going to damage your engine.

i know its going in to be looked at tommorow before work. Most likely it will be in the shop this week for everything, t belt water pump all the suspension crap and to fix whatever is causing the over heating problem. I did wanna get the car lowered too but i cant because of lack of funds....so im gonna have to get that done later.

Look at your oil and see if there is any coolant in it. If there is you do need a new headgasket but your problem does not sound like the headgasket is going out.

I agree the original problem doesn't sound like a head gasket but continuing to drive the car while it was overheating with no coolant could have made it a head gasket problem.

i didnt go over 10 mph while it was overheating and i didnt go over 2500 RPMs
but still that was enough to cool the engine

i doubt it's the headgasket... the honda dealer always says the worst to cover their a$$...

brendon2k .. i had him look at the oil last night... nothing at all that would make me think headgasket....

it could be the fans... he did had a hit&run a few weeks ago and the front of the car has damage..... but that doesn't explain the low coolant.. i hope it's just a leaking hose from somewhere....

Mine is losing coolant too somehow. I've been unable to locate the leak, so it's pretty frustrating.
