Range on oem alarm

The range i have had on my oem alarm has for the last year been getting less and less. Now i have to stand right next to my drivers side door for it to work and sometimes i have to press it several times for it to work, i have changed the battery in my remote and still no difference, anyone got any ideas? Im scared it may not work one time and i will be stuck outside my car after having armed it.......

Wouldn't you be able to unlock the door with your keys?? Or would that set the alarm off?
