Most people just sand it down and paint it. You can buy the parts from honda but it's like $80 for the whole part.

Don't go about sanding it down, it will still look like crap. How do I know? Because I tried this myself. And it's only a temporary solution, so if you're going to go through the cost of painting your car, why would you skimp on making sure the whole thing looks good when it's done. This is what I don't understand. Do it right the first time and you'll avoid a world of hurt and money loss later.

^I don't remember how the 5th gen is but on the forth gen, if you get all that black masking stuff off, it looks okay. Spraypaint it and you could never tell the difference unless you really really looked at it.

I agree, though, if you are respraying the car, it's worth the extra bucks to do it right.

I know for like a 5th gen, you could sand it to a certain point and find the bare metal underneath. Then I painted it black and noticed it was very apparent the elevation changes in the surface made it the areas I sanded obviously lower than the areas that didn't need to be sanded. So next I tried sanding the bad spots and adding a type of putty to it and sanded it smooth and painted it. Then I noticed that it wasn't keeping up well with car washes so I was going to sand the whole damn thing and paint the raw metal then I noticed that the black rubber I was sanding was actually all one mold with the actual molding that was making it water proof! So sanding it down to the bare metal wouldn't work.

Finally, I said **** it and bought all new replacements and haven't looked back.
