Questions from newb 4th gen guy

i have been doing some searching but can not seem to get the info i am loking for straight. Here is what i am trying to figure out. Which model preludes had which engines. Is the 4th gen h22a1 rated the same as 5th gen h22a4? Which Preludes had the vaccum flourescent gauges, and which had regualr analog gauges? Was the 4ws a separate model or was 4ws an option for all models?

One more thing, does the tachometer on the f22, h23, h22a1 equipped models differ??? redline? All vaccum flourescent? Analog?

The EL(Electroluminecent) gauges were on 94-96 models. I'm not sure if they were on the S model, but the VTEC and Si for sure. The tach is different on all 3. The F22 redlines at 6250(I think) the Si at 6500, and the VTEC at 7200(I think) The 4ws was a kind of a separate model, but I think technically it was an option, but only on the Si. 4WS was available only on 92-93 models. VTEC models were available fron 93-96, although, 96 is obdii.
S=F22:135hp, 145ish TQ
Si=H23:160HP, 156 TQ
VTEC=H22A1:190HP, 158 TQ

Can the gauge clusters be swapped from 94-96 models into 92-93 models? Was the 4ws worth it?

^Yes, several people here have done it, it takes a little work. 4ws worth it? Depends on who you ask, as a 2ws guy, I say no.

H22a4 = open deck
H22a1 = closed deck.

And no they have diff. power ratings. H22a4 has more power, but the 4th gen is still generally faster.

4WS is great for parking that's for sure. My driving experience hasn't dramatically changed with 4WS, but turning corners and parking seem to have made it worth it.

so the h22a1 has a closed deck stock. I guess this would be better for boosting than an h22a4 then. Also with regards to 4ws, i have a 5th gen SH. Has anyone ever driven a 4ws and an SH. How do they compare. The idea with both systems was the same, eliminate understeer. I was wondering which worked out better. I know the atts is a bit harsh sometimes, and i wondered if 4ws had the same kick your ass around the corner effect.

I've never driven an SH, but with 4WS with good tires, suspension, and cornering skills...You can indeed get the "kick your ass around the corner" effect. I think it's good, but I'm biased. Honestly, it's a bit overrated at times. Four wheel steering. Whoopdedoo, but it's unique for the Preludes to have. I just like parallel parking with it.

4ws and a 5th gen SH are nowhere near the same...

4ws is a low speed steering assist. the back wheels physically turn the opposite direction from the front at low speeds. if it were to do it in a full throttle turn going through an apex, the car would flip due to the rear wheels being turned.

ATTS is a high speed torque transfering system where the torque gets transfered to the outside wheel to help pull through the turn (correct me if i'm wrong guys)

^4WS the rear wheels also turn in the same direction at high speeds for lane change manuvers etc.

are you sure ryan? wouldn't that disrupt the cornering ability? or do the wheels not turn when the steering wheel gets to a certain point?

not saying you're wrong, but i just hadn't heard that.

i know all about atts, and yes you are correct about how it works. Atts was developed to combat understeer which i thought was the reason for the earlier 4ws system. I dont see the purpose of 4ws if it is only at low speed. Its a honda, how important is it to get into small spaces with an already small car. There has to be more to it with high speed maneuvering. Any 4ws experts out there?

Positive. I'm sure one of the 4WS guys will confirm and be able to elaborate a bit.

I have done the Electro Gauge swap into my 93 and it was a piece of cake. It was pretty much a plug n play swap.

i REALLY like the feel of atts if it means anything... when your cornering in a type sh prelude, it just feels like the car wants you to step on the guess to just pull it around the corner... and having track experience, it is a very good experience.
