questions on aftermarket CAT

im thinking about getting an aftermarket CAT... couple of questions:

-whats the best streetlegal cat out there for the 4th gen

-will a VTEC cat bolt up to the B pipe on a DC sport catback made for a S model 4th gen?

Random Technologies makes a pretty nice street legal cat. I think that's what I'll end up going for. As for the vtec one bolting up...sorry, can't help ya.

I got min at the same place. I had him use the catalyst for a 5l+ V8 and put Prelude flanges on it. Hi-Flow + Smog legal Got it for $100 shipped

I just passed smog with it too, just barely, but I passed.

sounds like a good deal, but does anyone know if the bolt pattern on the exhaust side of the cat on a prelude S different from the vtec bolt pattern?

Just buy a universal carsound cat and have it installed at a exhaust shop. They will flange it properly so it fits and you save money cause random cats are a ripoff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the hp gains from doing this almost non-existent? I think it only really helps if you have FI w/ larger diameter piping. I've heard people argue both ways, but more agree that it's not even worth the money. Anybody have any numbers?

I've got a 2.5" carsound cat. It was $80 and then add another $40 for install/welding flanges. It made my car a little louder at first but I think it is getting quieter now that I putting some miles on it.

Well I don't know if this helps, but one of the times I dynoed my car, I did it with no cat, or exhaust, it was just open after the header pipe and I gained 10 horses. So which one gave me more horses the cat or the exhaust being off I don't know.

I don't really think gutting the cat helps at all either. I know that, w/ FI, the bigger the pathway of the tubing from the engine, the better performance you'll have, but w/ an NA car, I still don't see much evidence of hp gains w/ a gutted or high-flow cat. If I see some good evidence, I'll probably pick a high-flow cat up when I hook my turbo up, w/ some 3" piping throughout. But I've yet to see anything convincing me that high-flow cats do anything but change exhaust notes.
