Question for those with 94+ console swap

I'm working on upgrading to the 94+ style console. I have the console and ebrake handle and was working on mocking stuff up today. I can't seem to get the ebrake handle in the correct place; it dosn't fit flat on the exhaust tunnel when lined up with the console, and it angles towards the pass. side not the driver. I'm guessing it should be fairly easy to determine the correct position for it, but it just dosnt seem to line up at all. I bought it off Ebay, so now I'm wondering if somehow I got a JDM one?

you will need to re-drill and custom mount the ebrake.

I knew drilling would be required, but I guess I figured you would at least be able to have it sit flat in the correct mounting place. Is the shape of the exhaust tunnel different on 94+ cars?

the 94-96 tunnel is the same from when i looked at it. There is a few ways to get the ebrake to sit correctly, drill holes, use washers and nuts and fasten it from under the car. Or get some one to cut/fab a steel plate, drill 2 holes in the plate use nuts and bolts to fasten it then weld the plate to the tunnel. That is what i did. Then i got a steel rod from Orchard supply and exteneded the threaded rod that connects to the ebrake cable bracket. I did that so i wouldn't need to cut and modify the cables.

Can you show us pics of how you did this?

Did you just bend the front "foot" straight, or did you have to modify the rear one as well?

i didnt have a bracket on mine, when i ordered it off ebay, and i just kept working at it, for about 2 days, just keep adjusting and drilling, bending brackets. I would say the main thing is no one can tell you how to do it right, its up to you how u want it to look because it is semi-customized. Heres what i did... :

hookinh up the cables was a different story, but i got it to work, if you guys want any pics of that, let me know. good luck!! i like it a lot better now anyways

the cables do not line up with the rod though, did you bend the rod to get them to work? pics would be very helpful...

ok, i finally got some free time to take pix for u guys.. don't really have much time due to school and work... anyhow... hope this explains everything. The way i did mine is way more solid than all the other ebrake conversions i've seen. body shop did all the work for like $80 bux.

If you guys are wondering what i used to weld the steel rod to the ebrake rod, i picked up some sleeves from OSH along with the steel rod from OSH. The body shop found some spare steel, used a plasma cutter to cut out a plate, drilled 2 holes to fasten the ebrake handle on the plate, then they welded the plate to the tunnel.

If you can not see the pix... the link to the album is:

So yours looks like it's a lot farther over to the right than most I've seen (most are on the left side of the exhaust tunnel). Are you using a JDM console, or is the handle just at a really sharp angle to make it out of the slit in the console? That cable connection definitley looks more sturdy than the wire method!

Oh i forgot to mention that I have a JDM 94-96 center console. So that is why my ebrake is on the right side (ebrake on passenger side). I picked the JDM console becuase i'm a big guy and i didn't like the ebrake handle hitting my leg, so I decided to let the passenger deal with it. With the steel rod being welded, you don't have to cut ur existing cables which make it alot stronger.

Yeah, those pictures make a lot more sense now that I know it's a JDM console
