HMMM.... I don't get how though. Because the way the shift lights work is, you put in a 'pill' into the tach that at whatever RPM the pill is, that's when the shift light comes on. There needs to be some sort of signal that sends to the shift light at a predetermined RPM... I can't imagine how we could do that.
yeah I've thought about it before as well.. and I couldn't figure out a way. The only light I can think of is a vtec engagement light, which is simple to wire.
It would be nice to be able to buy just a shift light though *sigh*.. I don't want a monstro-humongo-tach
If I were to get any of those, it would be the Autometer one for sure. They still use pills, but incorperate it all into the shift light.. smart. I wonder if they've made one of those in the Cobalt series....
whoa , i was just thinking about this today (my work truck doesnt have a tach , i would definitely get the autometer one though, the first one looks ghetto, and the third one kind of does also. my .02
not that it's not cool, but it's defeating the purpose of why I'd buy it.. it's still something you'd need to pay attention to, to see where your at, where as with a shift light, the whole point is you can never take your eyes off the track, and shift when the light comes on.. so all your attention is diverted to driving the hell outa your car.
Back when I had my ricey lude, I installed a shift light into the door vent. It was adjustable by turning a dial in the back of it (which I did by opening the door and the dial was just inside the hole on the door panel). The positive wire hooks up to a wire under the hood near the distributor cap... can't remember which color exactly.
