question on my timing belt

I just got my car back from the shop, they did the timing belt, tranny fluid, coolant, water pump and some other things. My question is is the belt suppose to be noisey now? I here like this winding up sound as my rpms go up. I asked him about it, he was like yea thats normal. I'm not sure about that... so i thought i would ask people who have had it done.

Is it a H22? If so it is your tensioner and it is normal it will go away after a while. perfectly normal.

Did they install a new tensioner or reuse the old one? If they reuse the old one, it could be that the bearing is starting to go bad. How many miles are on your car? Because if your milage is up there, then I would suggest replacing the tensioner. If the bearing in the tensioner seizes up, then you can say goodbye to your new timing belt. If they did replace the tensioner, then they might have tightened it too much and it would need to be loosened up a little. I hope you also got the balance shaft belt and tensioner replaced also, since they were right there.

^^ I don't think so. You can't over tighten it it does it by itself. Hey big B I do these all the time it is perfectly normal. The H23 is the one you adjust your self, not the H22. The wine is always there after replacing the belt.

my H23 started doing the whining sound after I had my timing belt done over a year and a half ago, so I dont think the problem is limited to H22s

Look you are talking about something way different if it happenend later. The whine we are talking about is in the tentioner that ONLY comes in the H22, NOT the H23. The h23 has a tensioner that you can adjust yourself, where the H22 has an auto tensioner. Do a search you will understand G-Loc.

I got my timing belt changed maybe 5 months ago. I have the exact noise you are describing. Mine hasn't gone away, although I have heard others say that they had the same noise and it went away after a little while. My mechanic says that my t-belt is extremely tight (stupid auto-tensioner) which is most likely causing the whine. I haven't yet had a chance to take my car in and get it taken care of, as it is tolerable, yet very annoying.

well then, if you want me to record my car's whining sound then let me know. It started doing it after I had my timing belt done because it is probably on a bit too tight.

also, if you don't compress the auto tensioner on an H22 before installing the belt, it will whine. The auto tensioner only extends, it does not retract.
