Question about Power Steering

I tried doing a search for the answer, but came up short. I'm sure it's been asked a million times, but help me out. Does taking the power steering belt off to increase hp damage the car in any way, or is just a matter of personal preference with absolutely no mechanical consequences? Thanks in advance for helping!

It does not cause harm. You car will be hard to turn at low speeds. If you really want to take it off for hp gain you should pull out all the power steering components so that when you are turning you don't have to fight the system which will make turning easier.

Well actually I'm looking at buying a car where the guy already disabled it. I was just wondering if that was bad for the car in any way. Thanks!

I read something about it being bad if you drained the fluid from the rack? some guy was talking about how when he took off everything, he left the fluid in the rack and plugged it off instead of just taking off all the lines and draining the fluid from the whole system

someone correct me on this

Thats correct. If you take the system out, make sure that the rack is still fill of fluid.

If you have drained all of it, you will experiance unwanted amount of wear (including the seals) and will need replacing soon after. PS racks also use the fluid for lubrication while non PS racks just use grease so removing the lubrication..well...we all know what happens...
