Question about a catalytic converter heat sheild

Hey guys, remember that intake rattle i was *****ing about earlier, well we narrowed it down to the exhaust. It sounded like it was coming from the muffler, but the real problem was that the front pipe and mid pipe. They are ****ed up...and if they aren't replaced soon, I was told that they would slip in half and drag on the ground (Can you say land rover Jeff ) In addition to these peices being busted, i beleive he said that cat heat shield was damaged. When I asked him for a price on the part he didnt know off hand and he was too busy to look it up. Does anyone know how much they cost for a 92 2.3L?

Ok heres the fun part of the post. I am so happy that this happened to the car. Why you ask? Because its cheaper for them to install a custom catback system rather than replace it with stock parts. The only stock parts i need are the front pipe (200 bucks, already ordered it) and the cat heat sheild. I bought a Power 1 muffler for the time being untill i can get a Thermal. That cost 140 and get this, installation of a 2.5 inch custom mid pipe and catback only costs 150 total, with labor. So getting the custom catback winds up being roughly 100 bucks cheaper than to fix it up stock. Not only that, I can sell the stock muffler now, so thats more money in my pocket.

So again, in case you forgot, my question was, does anyone know how much the cat heat sheilf for a 92 H23 costs?

I don't know how much they are but you really don't need it. Mine was making a vibrating sound at low RPM's because the bolts rusted out that held the upper and lower portion together. I removed the shield and the noise stopped. Just be careful not to park on high grass or piles of leaves (I think you shouldn't do those things even if you have the heat shield).

Good point. I'll ask the guy doing the install on saturday morning, thatgs when its getting done and thats why i had to buy the ricey exhaust (but know knows, it might sound decent with an intake and 2.5 inch piping...considering that most of the cars with these type of mufflers still have their stock piping ) Hopefully I'll have cash soon to buy a thermal. Then I could sell both the stock exhast and the custom one Thanks for the info though.
