Question about 4th gen header...

I have a 98 5th gen and was hoping to put the 4th gen GReddy header on it. I have heard of others doing this but it has to be modified somehow, lengthened or shortened? Does anyone know the exact length of the A-pipe for this header? Would it be the same as the stock 4th gen? If it is the same size does anyone know the exact length of the stock 4th gen header?

I asked this question over on the 5th gen board too but was hoping someone over here might have info regarding the 4th gen header.

I have a greddy header in my garage I could measure but it seems knda pointless to me..

You buy it, take it to a exhaust shop, tell them to shorten or lengthen to fit the cat, and you're done.

If you could measure it that would be fantastic. The reason I want to know is because I want to do the install myself. I just want to take it to a shop and have it modified how much I need to fit my 5th gen. Do you have plans for this header? Do you want to sell it to me?

Thanks for the reply.

YEAH RIGHT.

It's sitting there beside the Greddy PE waiting for my engine which is getting built. However you can make an offer if you want Everything is for sale for the right price.

I can try to measure it tonight....but where the heck will I measure it from...I don't see where there would be a reference point for both headers? How would you know?

I still think the only way to do it is to install the header, then measure, then cut/add...you have no frame of reference as the length/shape/curve of the header design prevents using a simple measurement...

Well what I was thinking was basically looking straight down at the a-pipe from above to get a reference for the curved part of the pipe. I would say from the tip of the flange of the curved part clear to the flange on the end.

I think this would give me a total length of the header good enough.

How about $50 shipped.

"I made him an offer he couldn't refuse"

Thanks for your replies and I look forward to hearing these measurements.

The 4th gen header is longer by about 8-10 inches, I have a 5th gen header on my 4th gen right now and I had to make some extension pipe to connect it to the stock cat.

So yeah, just go to a muffler shop and have them do it for you... it'd take 'em about 5 minutes, and it'd only run you about 35 bucks for it, if not less.

Yeah seriously since it's longer...attach the header and run mean open header to your exhaust place and get them to hack it and fix it.

Last thing you want is to do it all without having it on the car and finding out it's .5 inches too short.

Yeah, that is probably a good idea. That will sound phatty, open header and all. Will sound quite a bit different than with my mugen exhaust. Maybe I will try and get it on video.

What about my offer?

Wow, Joel, we're actually CALMLY posting in the same thread together.

Dotay, trust me, running open header is not "phatty".... well, if you think exhaust fumes going in the car and it being louder than a harley, then I guess it's PHATTY, but that's just not for me. But you'll have to do it, til you get to the muffler shop.

That 'phatty' was more of a joke than anything. Ill probably sound like a complete jacka$$, I'll probably get mad props from the local ricers though. If I do end up doing it I will go directly to the shop and not veer of course. I still might video it though.

Or you could get the shop to installed header as well...

I used to have a side dump to run open header....let's just say you don't want to drive like for very long unless you want to scare a lot of people....

The difference between the two is in the secondaries (lower half) The upper part is the same size.. more or less..

I think Keith has a photo of 3 different headers sitting side by side..
